Kiki is healing from weakness, low thyroid, inflammation on a carnivore diet

My name is Kiki.

I have been eating a carnivore diet of 90% beef since March 2018.

 

I eat 2 meals a day of 1 lb. of beef each meal.

 

I usually eat my meals at 11am and 6pm.

 

I eat when hungry.  I always eat to satiety. I do not limit meal size or calories. 

 

I supplement with salt. 

 

I do not test ketones, use a food app, or weigh myself. 

 

I was a 35-year vegetarian and during that time often vegan.

 

I was very attached to my vegetarian way of life and the belief system that I was eating the ideal health diet while contributing to a better planet and global future having been inspired by many popular vegetarian and vegan books of that time. 

 

I have been involved in Yoga since I was 19 years old, for nearly 40 years now. This dedicated practice as well as decades of Yoga teaching – with more than a dozen study trips to vegetarian South India over a 20-year period – kept me tied to vegetarianism as part of a spiritual belief system and the supposed foundation for luminous health. Simultaneously I embraced a strongly pushed vegetarian propaganda that meat eating and animal farming were causes of global disease and global destruction. These are ideas that most vegetarians accept without question and sacrificing all logic. 

 

I have always been highly physically active – from a competitive runner in high school, professional dancer and actress and an intensely dedicated yoga practitioner – waking at 3am and doing 2-3 hours of intense and advanced yoga asanas for decades while running a yoga school, directing yoga programs and teaching world wide and with a roster of celebrity clients as well as creating yoga programming for individuals and communities with MS, Spinal Cord Injury, disabilities, and vets with PTSD.

 

 

 

 

 

From the age of my late 30’s, I began to develop more and more digestive problems (swinging from constipation to loose stools) and kept trying to address this through shifting how I ate a vegetarian diet – from cooked, to raw, to Ayurvedic to macrobiotic to vegan. As well as adding herbs, superfoods, supplements etc. I also developed increasing chemical sensitivities to paint, chemicals, and cologne leading to rashes, flushed skin, and stomach upset.

From being uniquely strong and high energy, I began to develop more and more body pain and stiffness. When I would travel to India – for the first ten years, I would always become more strong and flexible and focussed. But this eventually changed. Rather I would almost instantly have more pain and terrible inflammation. I thought it was due to the intensify of yoga practices, along with so called “over use syndrome” – but now in retrospect I see it was legumes, cereal grains, and toxic plant compounds. I cannot tolerate these at all today. 

 

My health continued to plummet with B12 anaemia that included visual and auditory hallucinations, fainting, intense brain fog, and extreme exhaustion I was also extremely deficient in most B vitamins and vitamin D (and yes, I supplemented with B12 for decades)

 

For nearly 10 years leading up to my carnivore diet change, I needed to soak in a hot bath everyday to begin to move. I got weekly massages as well as weekly acupuncture and was usually getting an additional kind of therapeutic healing like fascial release sessions, chiropractics, Somatics, barefoot movement and the list goes on. All this to manage 24-hour pain and to just get through my week. 

 

A looming crisis of faith along with my determination to beat these health concerns and a belief that we can heal ourselves (and that I could reverse my situation and thrive) with food choices led me to deeply research Weston A. Price, bone broth, Ketogenics, paleo, zero carb and I found my way to the Low Carb Down Under, Ancestral Health and other presentations where I learned from Dr. Shawn Baker, Dr. Georgia Ede, Sally K. Norton, and so many others whose research I embraced to completely heal. Several Facebook groups like Principia Carnivora, Women’s Carnivore Tribe and Vegan and Vegetarian Recovery offered a great deal of community support. I also listened to every Human Outliers Podcast for a year.

I am so grateful to this Carnivore community and to all those that are participating in research and spreading the word on Carnivore, ultra low carb, zero carb and plant-free lifestyles. 

Today I have more vitality than I could have imagined. I feel that I have turned back the clock 20 years (years that were lost to me due to pain and exhaustion). Just a few months ago I registered a Guinness Book of World Records for the Longest Held Downward Dog Pose at 1 hour and 20 seconds. I have taken up kettle bells as well as other athletic and optimal development practices. 

 

My hair and nails are thick and growing. My skin is smooth and my body is lean and toned. I am strong and energetic. I recently moved onto my sailboat and am living a sailing life (this would have been  physically impossible 2 years ago). 

 

 

 

All  the health concerns listed below have disappeared except for some remaining tinnitus, occasional insomnia as well as sensitivity with minor rashes and some low back pain when I eat off plan (which includes a few animal foods I cannot tolerate like pork, dairy and eggs).

Chris improved his joint pain and thyroid function on a carnivore diet

My Carnivore Journey
I always had a problem with weight since I was a child. When I got older it would yoyo
back and forth reaching a peak of over 260 pounds. When the scale said 260 I stopped
weighing myself, it was too depressing.
During nursing school, I began going to the gym, juicing, and experimenting with
intermittent fasting. The weight slid off. I looked good and felt good. I was eating lots of
kale, spinach, and broccoli.
Around 2015 I began to notice that after exercising it felt like I never recovered. I was
sore all the time. My joints began to ache and I lost my strength. I would sit on the
weight bench dreading my next set.
I thought maybe I was over exercising and began backing off hoping that would help. I
began using less weight and going to the gym less frequently. I gradually went from 4
days a week, to 2 days a week, to one day a week, to none.
During this time my health began to deteriorate. My worst symptom was brain fog. I was
a corrections nurse and at times I had to be on my toes. It became frightening when I
had to respond to a medical emergency and struggled to remember what to do.
My symptoms included joint and muscle pain even though I was no longer exercising.
No strength, no drive, and no libido. I felt cold all the time, my skin was dry, I was
gaining weight, and constipated.
My life became centered around finding the strength to make it through a day at work. I
would drink a pot of coffee in the morning, drink coffee at work, go home and rest, go to
bed, and repeat. I had to drink the coffee for physical and mental energy to function,
and then rest at home hoping to be able to do it again the next day.
I ended up switching jobs to a psych unit which was a bit easier. While I was at that job
a new symptom emerged, I lost my eyebrows. One day I noticed in the mirror that my
hair was looking thin and then realized my eyebrows were almost completely gone. As
time went by I watched them slowly fade away to the point that someone at work asked
me if I shaved my eyebrows. Very embarrassing.
I spoke with some people at work about my health issues and someone suggested
hypothyroidism. When I looked into it many of my symptoms, including the lack of
eyebrows fit. So February 2018 I decided to go to the doctor. He had me get labs and
checked my TSH. It was 2.4085, right in the middle of normal. I didn’t know what else to
do, nor did I have the strength to do anything. I felt like I was waiting to die.
June of 2018 I watched the Joe Rogan podcast with Jordan Peterson where he talked
about his daughter Mikhaila and her health problems. I then watched Joe’s podcast with
her. I was inspired and hopeful that maybe if I gave the carnivore diet 30 days it might
help me. I had a blog that I wasn’t updating anymore and decided to use it to record my
progress and see if it worked.

I weighed myself, took pictures, and did some measurements. I decided to be as strict
as possible so I didn’t accidently sabotage myself. I ate only beef, salt, and water. Over
the 30 days my health greatly improved. The brain fog began to lift, my weight and waist
began to shrink. I felt more energy and my pain began to diminish.
During that 30 days I delved into as much information about the carnivore lifestyle as I
could find. I found Shawn Baker’s podcast with Joe Rogan and the meat heals, now
meatrx website. The meatrx website has been a source of inspiration for me. I devoured
the testimonials. Reading all the success stories gave me hope that if it worked for them
maybe it can work for me.
After the 30 days I felt so healthy I never wanted to stop and take a chance of my health
deteriorating again. Today, a little over 2 years into my journey I have relaxed my diet a
little. I eat bacon, cheese, and egg yolks with beef. I have also included liver and
kidneys (Kidneys are $.50 a pound and I am a cheap bastard). I also use pepper and
tobasco sauce for additional flavor.
The majority of my health issues have resolved, including my eyebrows. They are still a
little thin but they are back! When I would get into my car my knees would hurt, now
they don’t. Even today when I get into my car I am amazed that they don’t hurt. My
constipation is mostly gone, my skin is nails, and hair are much improved. My strength,
energy, and drive have returned.
I believe my health had deteriorated to the point that it is taking some time to come
back. I still have severe seasonal allergies however as I am writing this it is the first fall
that is not so bad, things are still getting better, even after 2 years. So I want to give you
hope like so many have done for me. If you are having health problems try the carnivore
diet for 30 days. If after 30 days you still have some health issues give it time, you might
be like me, and need a few years to rebuild.

E has lowered triglycerides and improved blood work on a carnivore diet

Around 2008, I started seeing a new doctor because I had long been plagued with food issues and “tummy troubles” like IBS and food allergies. In late 2010, after a series of trips to the ER and undergoing more GI testing than the average 24 year old, I had my gallbladder removed. Before then my bloodwork wasn’t crazy, but it wasn’t all “normal”, either. In 2012, I saw my GP for a few run of the mill ailments…weight gain (rapid and excessive!), fatigue, depression, etc. when I got my lab work back I was stunned- my triglycerides were through the roof high and my thyroid was off. He diagnosed me with hypertryglyceridemia, hypothyroidism, fatty liver disease, and a slew of other “incurables” that come with following a SAD diet and crash diet cycles. I have never had a good reaction to medication so at that point he gave me Levothyroxine and Valium for vertigo. I mentioned diet but he brushed it off- I wish I knew then what I know now!

At that point, I had tried weight watchers, vegetarian, vegan, low fat, no red meat, gluten free, soy free, and many in between. I was still in denial that fruits were carbs so my morning smoothie was a staple. I took my medication and slowly, over the years, those vitamins and medications built up. By 2015 my medicine cabinet looked more like an 85 year olds than a 29 year olds. I still had high triglycerides (slightly lower but still worrisome) and I had moved on to taking metformin for fatty liver and Wellbutrin for depression, in addition to levothyroxine. I was on three medications that were supposed to help balance hormone levels and ideally lose weight but I was STILL gaining and in poor health- physical and mental!

The end of 2015 brought my family 2 major deaths and my world view was very shaken. In January of 2016, I decided to give Paleo and Whole30 a try. I had some good results for awhile but nothing sustainable and new food sensitivities were popping up once I removed some of the “big bads” like grains dairy and sugar. I was baffled…I remember saying to my then partner “all I’m going to be able to eat is meat! Who could live like that?!” (Oh how the tables have turned!)

After another disappointing check up with nothing to show but a higher number on the scale and little movement in my bloodwork, I decided (without ‘consulting my physician’ who had just tried to push more medications at me because dietary changes “wouldn’t help that much”) that none of the medications or vitamins I was on were actually keeping me alive. My system was too clogged with synthetic nonsense and there was no way my body could overcome anything when it was bombarded by so much outside influence. I slowly started weaning myself off of one medication at a time until I was medication free. In some regards I felt a little better but I knew I had a lot of work to do still.

From 2016-2019 I played around with paleo, keto, zero carb, and carnivore but I never stuck with anything longer than a few months. I felt fantastic on zero carb/carnivore but I still had some unresolved issues with my relationship with food so I couldn’t stick with something long term. I was devouring information this whole time, though. Finding all of the science, research, ‘anecdotal evidence’ from people’s stories that sounded like mine. Reading books, watching youtube videos and listening to podcasts, finding social media accounts for people that this worked for. Suddenly only surviving on meat was a light bulb that just made good sense, and I was healing my relationship with food and laying good groundwork to start healing mentally as well. During this time I also moved a few states away so early this year I knew I needed to find a doctor- animal based is magic but it’s not an immediate eraser…by some of my daily symptoms I knew I was still experiencing thyroid issues and I am still overweight so I wanted to get my bloodwork done to check things out.

In January, I found a job way closer to home with a fraction of the stress and I knew I could really dig in to an animal-based lifestyle. I was still on the hunt for a doctor and to say I was terrified of finding someone was an understatement. I was fairly convinced that any doctor I found in this tiny area I live would tell me I was sure to die an early death by following keto/carnivore but to my pleasant surprise, my current practitioner follows keto as well *insert huge sigh of relief*. By the time I saw him in March 2020, I had already lost about 15lbs since I weighed myself in November 2019, but only animal based for about 3 months at that point. He wrote me an order for bloodwork but this appointment was just a few days before covid shut our state down. It was check up work so I put it off until things started to ease up. In the meantime, I had very little trouble staying in line with animal based at least 80-90% of the time and anything not animal based is well thought out and things I don’t notice a reaction to eating/drinking.

In July 2020 I finally went to get a CBC with diff, thyroid check, lipid check,  and CMP. To my pleasant surprise, my astronomical triglyceride number was cut in half from 2012 and most of my other numbers were well within normal ranges. At the follow up appointment I discovered I had lost more weight and was down 30lbs in 7 months. I suspect I have lost a little more but I don’t own a scale so I will find out at my next appointment.

I’m still struggling with my thyroid issues but there’s a lot of damage of years of poor diet and mismanaged health to adjust. Since going animal based and addressing my wellness holistically, my life has changed dramatically for the better. I’ve taken a vested interest in my health, what food actually does to my body, why what we eat matters on multiple levels, and I’ve even piqued the interest of a few friends- I’m happy to share my knowledge and resources in hopes they can make some healthy choices and more conscientious decisions about the food on their plates and their habits.

My journey isn’t over yet, but I feel like I’m on a path that is sustainable and what works best for me. I can tell my insulin resistance is taking a turn because I really don’t have the same hunger I used to have. My body is starting to be fat fueled and usually, if it’s not a juicy hunk of meat, I’m not interested! This is a huge change for me since I have always had a very emotional relationship with food and had at least one active eating disorder for the past 20 years. When I give my body what it needs, the guilt is gone, the worry is gone, I couldn’t care less about a calorie because I know my body is using everything I feed it to make us stronger and healthier. I think animal based is the optimal way of eating for humans, but the relationship we have with food is more important. Until I addressed that, there weren’t enough cows in the world to make me want to be healthier. Now I love my body for how hard it works and I love it by putting the best things I can afford.

John improved hypothyroidism and inflammation on a carnivore diet

It’s 18 months to the day that I’ve been doing the Carnivore diet and I’ve never felt better!  Here are before and after pics which you can clearly see a difference!  I’ve lost about 30 pounds between these pictures. 

More than that though, I have had many other health benefits!  For about 12 years I have taken two sets of thyroid medicine for hypothyroidism.  I have eliminated one of those pills and decreased the other by over 50% since being Carnivore!  That baffles my Vegan Endocrinologist haha!  I also used to get 2-3 dry spots a year on my body called psoriasis rosea which  is a lesser form of eczema.  I have not had a single dry spot on my skin the last 18 months!  I also used to have these dry little bumps on the back of my triceps from dry skin and no matter how much lotion i used they would always be there.  I haven’t had those either in 18 months!  I used to take 400-800 mg of ibuprofen nearly daily due to back and neck pain and join pain in my knees or elbows from my workouts and two knee surgeries.  I now take no pain meds at all and never feel any of those pains since being on Carnivore!  Inflammation is down as well and i only get inflammation when i cheat and eat any sweets.  

This has been the best for me in so many ways!  Also I have had 4 full blood panel physicals and nothing abnormal.  My total cholesterol ratio is actually better than pre-carnivore!  I take no supplements and people are surprised when they ask me what other supplements or vitamins I take when I say I taken nothing!  The only reason you need a supplement is because you are deficient somewhere.  No deficiency when eating meat!!

Krissy improved digestion, chronic pain, and cravings on carnivore diet

Krissy’s Background: I always had an interest in health from the time I was young when I worked as a lifeguard, swam, and was very active. I originally wanted to become a doctor to help others with their health so my first degree was in Biology. 

 

I discovered the importance of nutrition for health in my last year of my biology degree and took a nutrition course. I fell in love with nutrition science and physiology and decided to go back to school to study nutrition. I got my Bachelors of Science in Applied Human Nutrition and became registered as a Dietitian in 2009. I was also a certified personal trainer and started my own private practice/private training studio after this where I worked with clients looking for fat loss and building muscle, as well as fitness athletes.  

 

Why Vegan: I was always considered healthy, fit, and active. I followed the recommended “balanced diet” with lots of variety and the common nutritious foods but had to make modifications due to having IBS such as cutting out dairy and gluten. I was very conscious of making healthy choices based on the nutrition guidelines I learned in school. 

 

My husband Dwayne and I love learning about health so one day he started watching the documentary “Forks Over Knives” and decided he wanted to give a plant-based diet a try. I was not convinced at first because a plant-based diet was not a common practice when I studied nutrition and I wanted to be objective. Then we watched “Vegucated” and “Earthlings” and like many others I was terrified into believing animal products were bad for long-term health. I did some research at that time based on the resources provided in these documentaries and decided to join Dwayne. I didn’t realize at the time how one sided this research was however. I took a course in plant-based nutrition and was determined to prove it was possible to thrive on a vegan diet. 

 

The health decline: I felt great in my first year as a vegan. We now know this as the “vegan honeymoon phase”. Maybe it’s because I thought I was doing the best thing for my health, the environment and the animals. But it was after my first year that my health started to decline. 

 

I discovered I had low iron and vitamin D. I also developed chronic fatigue and chronic pain, was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis started to get skin issues and eczema patches for the first time in my life, my hormones were out of whack which was affecting my mood and cycles, my digestion was awful even though I wasn’t consuming gluten and I soaked everything, and I developed anxiety and mild depression. I also slowly started to gain weight when I had never struggled with my weight in the past. 

 

I started to see a naturopath who prescribed me natural supplements in addition to the iron and vitamin D I was now taking. I also took B12, a multivitamin, and plant-based omega-3 oil all while following a balanced whole foods plant-based diet. Of course all of the vegans tell me “I didn’t do it right” but if anyone researched hard enough on how to it was me! After-all I was determined to make it work because I also coaching vegan clients and made a whole business around plant-based diets and challenges. I was known as an expert in the industry and has a big social media following so of course I wanted to make this work. 

 

I didn’t eat processed vegan foods or junk. I ate a lot of avocados, chickpeas, lentils, vegetables, low sugar fruits, nuts and seeds, gluten-free whole grains, coconut oil, nutritional yeast, and drank only water and tea. I did not restrict calories and I prepared all of my meals at home. I also tried a variety of different eating protocols including high carb low fat, lower carb higher fat, I tried supplementing with pea and rice protein in my green smoothie. I even used a vegan coach to help me. I felt like I was constantly eating in order to make sure I was meeting my needs.

 

Yes to meat: It was after my 2nd year as a vegan my naturopath suggested I add in some animal products so I tried adding eggs back in and did this for another year, then tried adding fish back in a did this for another year, and finally dairy back in for my 3rd year as a vegetarian. So just to be clear I was vegan for 2 years and vegetarian for 3 more for 5 years total. At this point I was still supplementing and ate vegan meals weekly because I still believed it was the healthiest choice and I was determined to go back to veganism after my deficiencies resolved. 

 

Unfortunately they did not and my symptoms kept getting worse and worse to the point I didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning. I couldn’t work out anymore and I had to stop coaching clients during this time because I didn’t know how I was going to help others if I couldn’t help myself. One summer evening 2 years ago Dwayne was grilling burgers (he only lasted 6 weeks as a vegan by the way) and I had the overwhelming feeling to eat one for the first time in years, so I did. I felt so amazing afterwards and had so much energy I decided to add meat back into my diet because I knew my body was telling me something. It only took a few months for my iron levels to shoot up and I stopped supplementing. My digestion also got a lot better. 

 

Why carnivore: While many of my symptoms had improved once I added meat back into my diet I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and interstitial cystitis after seeking answers and treatment from literally every alternative health practitioner out there. I did several elimination diets after getting my diagnosis and kept discovering more and more triggers that would flare up my symptoms. We have done keto diets in the past and I was determined to lose the 30lbs I had slowly put on over the past few years so in January last year I decided to try a clean keto diet with intermittent fasting (basically fatty meat & veggies). After 3 months my symptoms started to get better (mainly my energy) and I lost 20 lbs. 

 

During this time Dwayne started doing the carnivore diet and I thought he was nuts. He kept sending me videos and research though and told me it was basically the most extreme (and accurate) elimination diet out there. I watched him do it for a few months while I kept eating my veggies and he was seeing amazing results. I decided I couldn’t say anything against it until I tried it myself and had the goal of doing it for 1 month as an elimination diet and adding foods back in. 

 

Within a few weeks my brain fog totally went away, my stomach was no longer bloated, and I had amazing energy. After the month my chronic pain was 95% gone and my eczema disappeared. I did try to add foods back in one at a time starting with avocados and then sauerkraut and my homemade sugar-free coconut yogurt but all of my symptoms came back. I was feeling so good on carnivore I decided to keep doing it until I felt like it was time to play around again. I lost 10 more lbs by the time summer came and looked and felt 10 years younger. 

 

I’ve tried playing around with adding some things back in like blueberries and some other low-sugar fruits and vegetables here and there but symptoms always come back. I’ve now been carnivore since May 2019 and feel like it’s the easiest WOE I’ve ever followed. I have zero cravings and am happy with eating fatty ribeyes every night.

Why I resigned as a dietitian: In our extensive research of the keto and carnivore WOE we’ve learned a lot about anti-nutrients and their role in chronic inflammation and autoimmune conditions. I was also shocked to learn about the history of nutrition recommendations by following the research of Nina Teicolz & Gary Taubes, and how there is a huge plant-based agenda behind our current recommendations from listening to the experience of Gary Fettke and Tim Noakes. As someone who saw the negative effects of making more plant-based choices first hand I just could not recommend the new food guide that prioritized carbohydrates and does not emphasize the importance of fat or animal foods. 

 

I also felt very limited in sharing my story as a dietitian in fear of getting reprimanded even though a high saturated fat keto and carnivore diet has literally changed my and Dwayne’s lives and reversed disease in many others. I wasn’t currently practicing as a dietitian anyway and didn’t feel like my registration was serving me anymore so I decided to resign. Afterall I’ve still had 10 years of nutritional coaching experience with clients and all of my knowledge or my nutrition degree couldn’t be taken away. 

 

Looking back there were so many things I didn’t understand. I remember doing a clinical case study in school and I was marked down for the meal plan I made for my patient because it was “too healthy” in fear that he wouldn’t comply. This patient was sick and in the hospital with a serious condition clearly caused by a poor diet. Of course I didn’t want to question my instructor though because she was the “expert”. My father, a type 2 diabetic, was in the hospital for a month recently and they kept serving his juice and high carbohydrate foods even though he expressed his concern. I understand that we can’t expect people to change overnight but it doesn’t help when we mislead people into believing their comfort foods are healthy and even serve them in the hospital. Instead “a balanced diet” is always promoted and everything is moderation but that is the most confusing term for people. It basically teaches people they can have anything they want as long as it’s not all the time. But does that mean you can still have it daily? 

What if some of us need to be a little more extreme with our diets because we have extreme conditions and don’t want to resort to something even more extreme like taking medication long-term, surgery, or suffering in misery. 

 

If you look at Health Canada’s guidelines even artificial sweeteners are still considered safe and we are still taught to limit saturated fats even though the new research shows there actually isn’t enough science to prove this. Nutrition science is largely based on epidemiological studies (food records) which we know are unreliable, but Dieticians cannot recommend anything that does not have any studies backing it, so it’s very difficult to go against the grain. I’ve always been very objective in my beliefs and would rather experience for myself then wait for new guidelines to come out that I now know are driven by a corporate agenda or for research years later. 




Isaac lost weight and improved his health on a carnivore diet

Twenty eighteen , I was at the time struggling with obesity and heart issues went from pesco-vegetarian to Vegetarian to vegan. I struggled even went nutritional assistance and yet I kept gaining weight. I did IMF, Calorie Deficits, and so much but the results never came in. Thyroid Issues started to develop and gut issues so I left the vegan diet and converted to Keto. I have been almost fully two years strong on keto/ Carnivore and the results have even great. Rebekah improved autoimmune issues, sleep, gained muscle on carnivore diet

Hello!
 
I wanted to share my success story thus far. My life has changed and improved drastically- and I wasn’t sure I was going to be alive less than a year ago. 
 

My name is Rebekah. I’ve always had a passion for health, nature, Fitness, and holistic nutrition / medicine. 

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 6th grade. In seventh grade, I ran into chronic pain. I was rushed to the emergency room with severe chest pains, and left with a diagnosis of costochondritis and degenerative disc. I was then diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, Narcolepsy, and a myriad of digestive issues such as gastroparesis, IBS, IBD, slow transit colon, Celiac and diverticulitis. I started regular Chiropractic treatments to address scoliosis and chronic pain. I went through multiple rounds of physical therapy, but symptoms continued to worsen. Shortly after graduating high school, I ran into chronic adrenal fatigue, crippling anxiety and pain so bad that I was bed bound. I had difficulty breathing, with frequent episodes of near- suffocation.

 

Desperate and afraid, I knew that I needed to dig deeper. I ventured to uncover the root of my issues, working with multiple functional medicine doctors, and embarked on a more strict/ personalized version of the ketogenic diet. I was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease, colitis, Addisons, Hashimotos hypothyroid, CREST scleroderma, and a central nervous system disorder called Central Sensitization Syndrome (see youtube video by Dr. Sletten of Mayo Clinic). With Keto, various supplements, and support I was able to get off of Adderal, Clonazepam, and Ambien after being dependent on them for 13 years. I gained energy and focus, and reversed Hashimotos! My cystic acne also cleared completely. I was only just beginning to break free from the cage that I became burrowed into after years of quick “fixes” and excessive rounds of antibiotics ordered by traditional med doctors. I have continued to strip off the band-aids to uncover the sources and contributors to systemic disease that almost took my life, and more importantly my hope and joy.

After losing a severe amount of weight, I was diagnosed with chronic chlostridium difficule (C-Diff). I am resistant to all of the antibiotics, and have now had 3 fecal transplants. I was told that I should consider removing my colon, and that I needed a feeding tube. I refused and instead decided to commit to the one thing that I avoided trying for so long… Nothing brought relief or nourishment back into my body until I started the carnivore way of eating.

 

I have gained back 30 healthy pounds of mostly muscle, and have overcome almost all of my autoimmune issues. I have broken up deep layers of scar tissue that was taking over my body and limiting mobility; now there is new, strong, healthy muscle. My mood has never been more stable, and I am mentally resilient. No more swollen ankles or strange skin rashes/ hives. My energy is steady and dependable, and I’m sleeping the best I have in my entire life. I have gained so much freedom in this journey thus far and I am passionate and thrilled to help others overcome their battles, and reach their goals -beyond expectation!

Joette improved depression, sleep, got off medications on carnivore diet

This is what an 80lb transformation looks like. In fact, the first 2 pics were taken the day before I had a gastric lap band installed. (18 years ago.) 7 years later the band would fail & nearly kill me. I had an emergency surgery & to have it removed. The 80lbs I had lost from the surgery came back almost immediately! I had a band on my stomach, which restricted my food intake, which also restricted my nutrients that lead to poor metabolism, destroyed my hormone health, etc… Since Jan. 3, 2017 I have been effortlessly losing the 80lbs again, but have never restricted my calories, I have never felt starved or deprived! I’m sure I have fixed my metabolic health, hormones, depression, anxiety, cellular heath & much more! Up to July 31st 2018, I was eating #ketogenicdiet . Aug. 1, 2018 (my birthday) I switched to the #carnivorediet … My journey wasn’t just weight loss anymore, it was healing! 🙌 I’m off 24 meds now, a CPAP machine, inhaler, infusions from the doctors office every 8 weeks, Celiac Disease & IBS under control, no more hypertension that had to be controlled with 4 different meds and ‘3’ Autoimmune Diseases in remission! I’m so thankful that @kendberry.md put a 1 month Carnivore challenge out that August! This way of eating has been life changing for me! 🙏 Once I had completed that first month of Carnivore, there was NO WAY I was turning back! I had forgotten how it felt to feel good… I couldn’t remember ever feeling as good as I did in my life! People may think I’m strange for this way of eating! I don’t care, it’s working!

I just want to share my health journey with you & maybe give someone a little encouragement. I am not where I want to be yet, but I’ve come a long way… I had been struggling for about 6 years with a LOT of symptoms that couldn’t seem to be diagnosed. So many different symptoms that I was sent to a Rheumatologist, Pulmonologist, Cardiologist, Hematologist & a Neurologist. As you can imagine, all of these Specialist found something to diagnose me with. And naturally they all began prescribing the meds… Lots and lots of meds! 26 different medications to be exact. This took them about 3 years to do… So for the second half of the 6 years I should have been feeling better all medicated up, right? Nope, instead I ballooned up to 234lbs & actually felt worse. The diagnosis was Depression, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Chronic Fatigue, Sjogren’s Syndrome & Celiac Disease. Plus, I had Hypertension & Sleep Apnea, with a touch of Neuropathy. I decided to try to take charge of my weight on Jan. 3, 2017 with the Ketogenic Diet that I had heard about. Plus, it would be gluten-free for the Celiac Disease that I had just been diagnosed with. Well, I lost 80lbs in just 1 1/2 years… I discovered that this way of eating was definitely going to be sustainable. I felt like there was more benefits that I could be getting out of this way of eating, because I had heard & read stories of people healing their depression, etc… The only thing I had under control was the Celiac Disease. This is when I took the Carnivore Diet challenge… I thought what the heck, my weight is stalled so I might as well give it a try. I don’t think 2 weeks has passed into this Carnivore Diet I noticed that I was walking better, I didn’t have all the nagging pain I suffered with daily & I was sleeping better! I had some of my regular doctors visits during this time… Guess what?!?! My blood work started coming back amazing! So amazing that my Hematologist was scratching his head trying to figure out what was going on… In 3 years that he’d been working with me & giving me iron infusions had he seen my numbers so good. I told him I knew why they were so good & why I’m feeling so good. I don’t think he wanted to hear what I had to say, but I told him anyway. I told him about the Carnivore Diet! He just did a face plant in his hands while shaking his head & mumbled “I’ve heard this a lot lately.” 😊In the next few months, I never lost any more weight. But, more amazing things started happening! I lost inches, I was able to come off of 24 out of 26 meds & I was able to stop using my CPAP machine!!! I want to share, share, share this info with you… Wishing to give hope to others or give someone the courage to try Carnivore if they are having qualms.
I only wish I would had known about Carnivore Diet sooner. Let’s all get the word out!

Kristen improved inflammation, hashimotos, and depression on carnivore diet

Would love to be included as one of the CARNIVORE SUCCESS stories. From SAD syndrome, I transitioned to low carb and eventually keto for years..I just never could maintain my progress. I never saw the body composition changes I wanted, despite lots of heavy lifting. Autoimmune issues (hashimotos), chronic inflammation, lipedema, depression, aches/pains are just some of the things I’ve been able to overcome or effectively manage going full carnivore. 7 months in and never looking back. And I’m FINALLY seeing progress in the gym!!! 💪

Becky improved digestion, hormones, cardiovascular health on carnivore diet

Hi I’m Becky! I’m 38 and I started my weight loss journey in 2002-03.

After the birth of my first child, I was at my highest weight–over 200lbs. I was suppose to be a happy new mom, but I was anything but. I hated what I saw in the mirror and was depressed I allowed myself to get to that point. You know, eating for two and all. I attempted calorie restriction, but I was going through alot of stress (divorce) and instead found myself eating my feelings until they were numb. This started a vicious eating cycle and no doubt damaged my metabolism. I did managed to lose some weight, then I got pregnant with my second child in 2005 and remarried. In 2006, I joined Weight Watchers in hopes of reaching my goal weight. I didn’t feel comfortable in my body eating predominantly plant-based and lean protein that Weight Watchers encourages. But let’s face it, those food items were less points, and I could eat more.

I started to have some health issues–orthostatic hypotension, asthma, and heart issues. I had to see a cardiologist and pulmonologist and under went a stress test, echo, lung function test, etc. All the doctors wanted to treat the symptoms with medication instead of getting to the root cause of what was actually wrong.

Our town lost our local WW meeting place and out of frustration, I ended up going to more of a Standard American diet. My weight yo-yoed. I had my third child in 2008.  At my follow up, I had a subpar pap screening result. Because I had a strong family history of ovarian/uterine cancer, I ended up having an hysterectomy with BSO in 2011. This basically put me into surgical menopause. My hormones were out of balance, and my physician wanted me to do HRT but it made me sick. I had bad brain fog and headaches. And it definitely didn’t help weightloss efforts with all the inflammation and bloating. In 2015, I started doing the Trim Healthy Mama diet which was a struggle due to its complexity.  I found myself eating fatty meals along with carbs which was a no no. I ended up falling back into the Standard American diet again and the cycle continued.

In 2016 after doing some research, I stumbled across keto. I cut my carbs down to 20g, ate moderate protein, and high fat. I consumed fat bombs, steaks, chicken thighs, bulletproof coffee, full fat dairy, and salads with full fat dressings, etc. I lost weight, but I still had bloating, inflammation, and menopausal type symptoms. After a while, I started to notice how certain foods affected me. “Ketofied” junk food, fat bombs, and baked goods caused bloating, inflammation, and cravings. I stalled which caused more depression and frustration.

Out of desperation, I started to become even more proactive and continued to eliminate foods. In January 2019, I came across World Carnivore Month that Shawn Baker started. I honestly thought he was nuts eating just Ribeyes, but I figured what the heck. It’s just a month. In June, I had a genetic test done and found out I have health traits/variants for Type 2 diabetes as well as having a family history of diabetes and hypertension. After finding out this information, I knew I was on the right path with carnivore.

I’m currently still carnivore. Yes, I’ve had a few slips throughout the year but as time goes on, it becomes easier to recognize what nutrients my body needs. I still battle the mental struggles of carb and sugar addiction, but I have learned I need to be an abstainer. I knew I needed to change my relationship with food and now view it as nourishment instead of using it to fill an emotional void.

I seek my nourishment from animal based food thanks to Dr. Baker! I feel better than I have on any other diet I’ve tried, and I don’t foresee any change to my eating lifestyle. My 2019 focus was nutrition and healing.  I took a break from exercise in order to heal. I feel better than I’ve felt in years! With the healing of Carnivore, I’ve had a 30+lb weightloss. But an even bigger positive effect is my hormones are more balanced–no night sweats, mood swings, or hot flashes. My sleep is better and deeper than it has ever been. I have no issues with any of the previous asthma symptoms or any cardiac/heart issues.  And, I’m no longer taking any prescription medication.

Another huge benefit is FOOD FREEDOM! I don’t track, weigh, or log my food. I’m not tied to any book or app telling me when I can or can’t eat. I eat when I’m hungry, and I stop when I’m full.

My food based Carnivore focus has been sourcing local meat I can afford. I lean towards beef and lamb. Being from a hunting family, I consume venison including the heart. I don’t routinely eat  organs such as kidney and liver. We also raise chickens for farm fresh eggs.
