Asra improves her digestion, joint pain, and mood on a carnivore diet

I’m from the Philippines and I’m 46 years old. I don’t follow any diet. I go by instinct mostly. I would just realize later on that whatever I was already eating out of instinct was actually a thing. Vegetarian, raw vegan, zero carb, paleo keto PKD, raw primal, — were labels I would learn after the fact.

For the first 20 years of my life, I ate well. Lots of pork, beef, bone marrow, liver, raw milk, and eggs. Like every Filipino, I also ate some starch in the form of steamed rice. Growing up in the rural countryside, I snacked on fresh coconuts and the best seasonal fruits in the tropics. I was very healthy growing up.

In the next 20 years, I turned vegetarian for ethical reasons. I became skin and bones. I was anemic. I was constantly fainting. I had low energy. Any doubts I had about the state of my health as a vegetarian disappeared when I had two miscarriages one after the other.

I was advised to gain body fat for a better chance at pregnancy. Desperate to put on fat, I ate at restaurants for one year. Nothing was off limits. It worked. I gained body fat. But my hips, wrists, and back hurt like crazy. I would wake up with crippling joint pain. I couldn’t even do light exercises such as yoga.

That’s when I went raw vegan. Just fresh fruits and vegetables plus nuts and seeds. I was hungry all the time. I was grazing the whole day. It was an improvement from one year of eating just about anything at restaurants. I was less inflamed. But I was having diarrhea all the time. I was constantly bloated. My bones were cracking and my hair was falling out. I felt old. I was only 43 then.

Then I started craving meat, lots of meat. For one year, I ate nothing but steak everyday. It seems extreme, but that was what my body demanded. I had no idea how healing meat could be. In less than a week, no more joint pains, no more hair loss, better skin, stronger bones, more restful sleep, improved mood, no more bloat, zero digestive issues. I could go on and on. But when I ate anything other than plain meat, joint pains returned. I also started to have skin reactions in the form of eczema if I ate eggs, dairy, or even the tiniest amount of plant matter in seasonings.

After 14 months of eating steak everyday, I started to crave organ meats and more fats. Pork belly and liver or bone marrow became my staple. I wasn’t aware of it at the time but I was already eating PKD or Paleo Keto style.

A month into PKD, I started craving raw meat. After two months of PKD, the last month being raw PKD, I felt invincible. I added back raw eggs, raw dairy, and a few bites of fresh seasonal fruits. To my surprise, I had zero issues. No crippling joint pains or annoying eczema lasting many days like they used to.

I’m grateful I discovered the amazing healing properties of meat, the one food I thought was so unhealthy I went to great lengths to avoid it. How so wrong I was. The struggle against brainwashing is real. Thank goodness I stumbled upon PKD. I’m glad I trusted my body when I had a craving for raw meat, raw eggs, and raw dairy. I’ve found perfect health at last eating foods I naturally love.

Pamela improved her digestion, mood, reproductive health on carnivore diet

August 1, 2018

Today as I celebrate 18 months as a Carnivore I think it is time for a #meatheals essay. After 18 months of healing and learning I would like to share my story. Over this last year and a half, I have really learned to never say never.

In December 2015 I was the heaviest weight of my life and on January 1st 2016 I began a keto journey for weight loss. I quickly lost 50lbs. I stuck to the plan and it worked. Except I wasn’t that happy. I was pleased with the weight loss but I didn’t feel happy. I didn’t love the way I looked or felt. I was low energy, had some loose skin and I looked and felt depleted. Even with my 50lb weight loss I didn’t like seeing myself in pictures.

The feeling of depletion was nothing new for me. For the previous 25 years I suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. IBS ruled most of my life, from what I ate, or didn’t eat at all, to the social functions I attended. I felt as though every moment of my life needed to have an escape plan. Even though I was eating great food while doing keto my IBS symptoms never resolved.

Then I came across Dr. Shawn Baker on Twitter. He was talking about an all meat diet and challenging his followers to give it a try. I was intrigued, it made sense to me, and I knew I could do it. Steak after all had always been my favourite food. My love of beef is what brought me back from a short but detrimental stint in a poorly executed vegetarian diet in my teens. So February 1st 2016 I began a 28 day carnivore challenge. Thank you, Shawn.

The rest is history.

5 days into no-fiber February (the very thing recommended to increase for my IBS) my stomach bloating disappeared. I had a sense of leanness I had never experienced. My bowel habits became regular and uneventful. How could this be? Was it too good to be true? For the next 18 months this pattern has continued. Since that 5th day I felt a surge in energy that has remained steady to this very day. The loose skin from my weight loss tightened. My breasts and buttocks firmed while my waist shrunk, my body taking on an hourglass shape, the signature of robust health and fertility. My libido is the strongest it has ever been and thankfully my husband is also living a carnivorous lifestyle. My skin looks nourished, my nails are stronger and my teeth and gum health have improved. I have gained a few pounds back on the scale since going carnivore but I don’t mind. My muscles grow without exercise and I have a new energy and love of leisure activities like biking, walking and swimming. I feel so strong, confident and capable, both physically and mentally. I have not taken an anti-anxiety medication in all of this time.

Zero Carb Zen is the real deal folks.

I have not been ill since changing my diet, not even a cold. It is a nice change for me after being plagued with throat infections my entire life. My menses improved on keto but perfected on carnivore. I am free from PMS, my cycle is regular, lighter, pain free and lasts only 4-5 days. I sleep deeply and rise rested and easily with the sun, which I have developed a much healthier tolerance for since the near elimination of seed oils from my diet.

I no longer have out of control hunger or cravings and I am not rigid in my food choices. I do not restrict calories or track macros. I eat anything from McDonald’s hamburger patties to Prime Rib, most kinds of seafood with extra butter, eggs from my backyard chickens, chicken, pork, cheese and coffee with full fat cream. I drink water, sparkling and plain, I also enjoy red wine, at times a square of dark chocolate. My diet consists of mostly beef and beef is what I really want and is what always makes me feel my very best. Eating for health changes everything.

I cannot imagine my life any other way. I am turning 43 years old in 12 days and I have never felt better!

The following Christmas pictures depict my journey from a SAD diet (2015) to Keto (2016) and then Carnivore (2017).

Jade had less complications during pregnancy on a carnivore diet

Today, August 26th 2019, is day 90 carnivore with no “slips”.

Tomorrow is week 33 of my pregnancy.

Carnivore at conception til week 8-10 when I went strict keto (with meat when I could) until back to carnivore around week 19-20. I’ve been in ketosis for this entire pregnancy.

I eat red meat (lamb and beef mostly), prosciutto, eggs, raw milk, raw milk kefir, shellfish, occasional rainbow trout, cheeses, and I drink coffee.

I take cow liver, cow brain, fermented skate liver oil, collagen, and magnesium.

Okay so with that intro out of the way! Post purpose. 90 day update!

There are some major things that are different this pregnancy (4th baby) than any of the pregnancies I’ve had in the past, and even from being keto and not carnivore in the early stages. Once going carnivore some big changes took place and I’d probably need a day to list them all.

I’m just gonna attempt to highlight my favorites

-Not a single new stretch mark this pregnancy.

Historically I’ve gotten such bad stretch marks that during the pregnancy you could SEE the tissue moving beneath the stretched out and destroyed skin.

-No morning sickness

-No cravings

-No swelling, inflammation, or bloat

-No anxiety or mood problems of any kind. I used to have severe panic disorder, type 2 bipolar, and depression.

-ZERO weight gain. Every other pregnancy I gained 70lbs and even had gestational diabetes with my third

-My hair ISN’T falling out this pregnancy

-I’ve gained muscle and strength without effort

-I’ve lost fat and lost clothing sizes

-My skin is more clear and softer than it’s EVER been. I used to get boils and cystic acne that I would have to drain and patch. It was a constant thing mostly on my upper back and sometimes my face and thighs.

-No more itchy dry skin on my legs that would have me clawing myself raw in the night.

-My diastasis recti healed itself mid pregnancy around week 25.

-No more muscle cramping

-stopped needing my chiropractor for reoccurring neck torticollis and lower back problems

-Nerve damage healed

-cracked heels gone

-grey hair regaining pigment

-My eye color has changed and is “cleaner”

-eye styes are gone and haven’t come back

-teeth never feel dirty

-My skin has pigment and I actually flush with color

-No more ear flushes for too much wax

-Rapid healing when injured and extremely high pain tolerance.

-More limber and stretchy

-More energy/No fatigue

-Knee joint pain is gone

-I have this sense of confidence and contentment that had been missing for all of my life previously.

Like I said I could go on for days and days about the amazing benefits I’ve had since going carnivore. They just keep coming and I just keep noticing them. I cannot say enough positive things about the carnivore diet, especially while pregnant.

When I was keto mid pregnancy I didn’t have all of these awesome things going on. I didn’t gain weight at all but it wasn’t even close to what my body is achieving as a pregnant carnivore. It truly took commitment to this WOE and removing everything else before the changes and healing started taking place.

This is easily the best and healthiest pregnancy I’ve ever had and I’m never going back

Amy improved adrenal health, fitness, mood, mental health on carnivore diet

Left: Amy at 21 years old, 216 pounds; Right: Amy at 43 years old, 120 pounds

Hi!

I’m Amy, I’m 43 years old, married with 4 children (4, 13, 21, and 24). I’m a nutritional therapy practitioner (NTP).

Before I became a nutritionist I was a personal trainer. Food and nutrition has been my passion for many years. However, I grew up on the standard American diet. After the birth of my first baby I fell for the “fat free” scam and subsequently became super depressed and gained tons of weight. At which point I got pregnant with baby number 2 and proceeded to gain an additional 67lbs!

I spent the next 6 or 7 years miserable. Counting calories. Trying to starve then binging on food. Laying in bed every night hating myself for screwing up. Vowing “tomorrow would be different!” Exercising the whole time, mind you! Many thousands of hours spent on the elliptical or treadmill!

Years passed. I thought I was “normal” with my daily headaches (there’s a king size bottle of Tylenol at Costco for a reason, right?!), heartburn, knee pain, depression, irritability, PMS, debilitating cramps, awful skin, breakouts, skin tags (eww), gray hairs starting in my 20’s, frequent colds, the flu and an epic string of strep throat (8 times in 15 months! And yes, antibiotics every single time… I shudder at the thought).

I didn’t lose weight in any miraculous or healthy way initially. I tried Metabolife and it certainly worked. I drank coffee all day and starved myself. This went on for awhile, I did give up the Metabolife thank God but kept on counting calories and fat grams and hours at the gym. At 5’5″ I hovered around 140lbs doing this.

Fast forward a few years, I started doing CrossFit and Paleo. I attended a nutrition seminar held by Robb Wolf and committed to “30 days of Paleo”. That was over 8 years ago. And believe me, the early days were full of many mistakes! Cheat days, sugar free popsicles, nasty chemicals, splenda in my coffee, you name it!

Since then I’ve spent most of my years on a keto/paleo template. I did tinker with higher carb paleo for a year. That was awful. I gained about 10 lbs of solid fat. Didn’t feel any better and my strength did not improve one iota!

I really only tried a carnivore diet out of sheer curiosity! (I thought that Baker guy was nuts! Lol) I already felt “pretty good”, or so I thought… however:

    • I had random gallbladder pain
    • occasional heartburn
    • my hair was falling out!!
    • my strength was stalled. I hadn’t improved any of my lifts in years (I do powerlifting. For fun, not competitively)
    • my mood, while better wasn’t great
    • my joints were a little achy especially if I sat in the same position for a long time. Which I chalked up to normal.
    • I was still fairly lean but not quite as lean as I had been previously. I’d pretty much lost all visible abs. Which I attributed to a reduction in exercise. And age.
    • my cycle was ok, although it took takes to “get going” – start, stop, start, stop.
    • I had adrenal fatigue (low cortisol all day)

I actually love veggies (with loads of fat, of course!) So, I figured I would try the carnivore thing and maybe last a week.

Within 8 days (I think) I got my first pullup EVER. Keep in mind I’ve been training seriously for over 20 years and never gotten a pull up before!

This almost surreal zen feeling came over me… I can’t explain it, but I knew I had no desire to stop! I started losing weight and body fat… my abs came back! At 5’5″ I went from maybe 130lbs to 117-120lbs and 13% body fat.

  • My heartburn, gone
  • My gallbladder pain, gone
  • My hair QUIT FALLING OUT
  • My mood and energy shot through the roof
  • Zero joint pain/stiffness
  • My cycle is perfect! Starts like normal, no cramps or PMS at all!
  • While I have not tested my cortisol levels again, all my symptoms of adrenal fatigue are gone!

Cooking and shopping is SO EASY! I have a family of four and we all eat basically the same.

After over 6 months I continue to see improvements in the gym. I eat primarily beef, pork, chicken. A little bit of cheese and eggs. I generally eat twice a day. Around 2lbs a day on average. I drink alcohol a few times a month (tequila). I don’t cheat at all. I have no desire.

For a nutritionist, this is a huge paradigm shift! But, all you need is an open mind and a willingness to experiment!

Catarina improves fitness, mood, mental health, sex on carnivore diet

I’m a 24 year old woman who has been eating a carnivorous diet for almost 6 months! I eat mostly beef and pork with some dairy, eggs and bone broth. Prior to adopting a zero carb lifestyle I was eating a TON of vegetables on a low carb Paleo Diet. I even went so far as to only eat natural, pasture raised, grass-fed and free-range meats. I ate that way for a few years. Then my mom told me she was switching from keto to carnivore and felt amazing! I was skeptical but sick of having painful cystic acne and mood swings. I was ready to try absolutely ANYTHING.

Within a DAY of eating zero carb I noticed a difference in my mood. Heaps of energy and euphoria! I didn’t know I was lethargic before, but looking back, I certainly was. I woke up the next day with NO new acne and existing acne already improving! This was plenty to get me hooked on meat. That was in August 2017. I started carnivore at about 115 lbs 5’2″ and I now fluctuate between 107-110 lbs.

I have noticed the following improvements: overall leaner body composition, increased libido, CLEAR SKIN, softer skin, more restful sleep, zero cravings for sugar or alcohol, more energy, hair / nail growth, more visible muscles, increased strength, better stamina, confidence, a feeling of being calm or even zen (I would have described myself as panicky and anxious 6 months ago.) My cycle has regulated itself. Two years ago I was diagnosed with irregular periods! I now have a very predictable cycle with next to zero cramping and much milder mood swings. The list grows.

Catarina’s face before and after going carnivore. No more acne!

Grocery shopping is a breeze. Hardly need a list! I went from spending 20+ hours a week meal prepping/cooking for my boyfriend and myself, to maybe 8 hours a week. I can go longer between meals! I eat twice a day on average and I still drink coffee in the morning with heavy cream. When I started carnivore I was still occasionally smoking cigarettes and a few weeks in, my nicotine cravings vanished. I quit cold turkey!! My whole life has improved and I completely attribute it to replacing vegetables with a TON of meat. #meatheals and I have to thank Dr. Baker for his commitment to this movement. Without this way of life I’d be surviving but not thriving the way I am now!!

Jennifer improved sleep, migraines, pain, blood pressure on carnivore diet

I am a 32 year old female. I have been full carnivore for almost 6-7weeks. I initially started in January but had some personal setbacks, so I put it on the back burner.

I regret not keeping up with it during that time period, but glad I started it again. In the almost 2 month time period : My cravings have stopped, my hair has stopped falling out like it did on “moderate protein” with keto and low calories , my skin is clearing up, my migraines have become nonexistent, my Depression has greatly diminished, my anxiety and OCD have almost gone away, my high blood pressure is now in the normal ranges and easily stays there, I have lost 15 lbs. so far, and over 18 inches overall, I sleep like a baby, my joints no longer hurt in my hands/knees/ankles, my blood sugar levels are in the normal ranges, I have a lot more energy and mental clarity.

It’s been a game changer for me. I am a much happier person than I was prior to carnivore. Meal prep and grocery shopping is simple and quick, and I enjoy what I’m eating and have no temptation for junk food. I only wish I would have discovered and started this sooner

Message: MY EXPERIENCE WITH RAW MEAT AND RAW FISH DIET
– This article was renewed and edited on May 29, 2018 –

11 May, 2018

The mainly raw meat and raw fish zero carb diet (MFZC) is the last diet I tested. I have been testing and using it from April 2016 to the present time. Before MFZC I have tested: raw meat/fish and fruits diet; raw meat/fish, fruits and green vegetable juices diet; raw vegan diet and some other diets. I have tested these diets for at least 1 year each except the raw vegan diet. The raw vegan diet had bad influence on my health and I stopped it in the half year.

Adaptation

The MFZC diet may have a period of adaptation like other ZC diets. Information about some symptoms you may experience during the adaptation can be read here: https://zerocarbzen.com/adaptation/. My adaptation lasted 3-4 months. I had night muscle cramps, brain fog and diarrhea that lasted about two months (up to 4-6 times a day at the beginning). I have stopped the diarrhea by drinking a glass of cranberry juice daily during the 2 days (one quarter glass frozen cranberry and 3 quarters with water – all blended together in a powerful blender). The diarrhea has stopped completely but returned after about a week for a few days. The diarrhea was gone without using the cranberry juice again and I didn’t have it during a very long time.

Changes made by using the MFZC diet

After the adaptation, my overall health have been improving gradually. I have started to have mostly a good mood, feeling more alive, better sleep, good lightness in the body, my memory stopped diminishing and improved, increasing clearness of my mind. My mind became more organised and my mental and physical reactions became faster. I don’t have any headaches or diseases anymore! For long periods of time I can be around people who have the cold or flu and yet stay healthy and not contaminated. My back pain (lasting a few days), that I usually had after lifting something very heavy, has stopped to appear after half a year of the diet. With the MFZC diet your muscles may start to grow and adjust according to your genetically predisposed type of the body even if you are not active or do not exercise (If you exercise the shape of your body, it can change according to your chosen plan). My joints don’t have any pain anymore and they have become more flexible without any exercise. Small red spots and pimples on my body, face and shingles (usually I often had a few small) have disappeared. My skin became better and stopped to produce new related to aging brown (liver) spots on the body and new small keratomas on my head (part of them disappeared later). On my face I had a big thick flat grey wart, after about year being on the MFZC diet, the wart has started to crack and fell off. Small white lipomas under the lower eyelids have disappeared. The process of balding on my head has stopped and my hair stopped greying. The feeling of permanent thirsty, frequent visits to washroom, hot feeling inside the body after eating sweet fruits – all went away. My past frequent constipations and diarrheas do not appear anymore and I have normal bowel movement mostly every day. My gums and remained teeth became clean, healthy and strong. I brush my teeth only with water and use dental floss. My breath is always fresh. I do not know how long I will have my great healthy condition but may compare it with some conditions of wild animals. In the wild, if animals eat genetically proper raw food for them, they age significantly less visible than people do. The animals keep their health, energy and all kinds of activity until they die from natural reasons.

Condition of teeth

Long time ago I had many teeth removed with treated root canals (dead teeth), all amalgam fillings have been removed and changed to cement fillings. Actually keeping these dentist’s “treatments” slowly poison and harm you. You may find lots of information about it in the internet.

What kind of meat and fish were used

While mostly on the MFZC diet, I use and test the Costco fatty beef and frozen wild salmon. The beef is mainly whole strip sirloin (5-7 kg pieces), I weight and cut it into daily portions. 2-3 of the portions I put in the fridge and eat in the first days. Leftovers are kept in the freezer for later use. I eat two times a day – one third of the daily portion in the morning and two thirds in the evening (if the portion is frozen I put it in the fridge in the evening for the next day). The evening portion I return to the fridge until evening. The wild salmon I usually eat 2-3 times a week in the morning.

Distilled water

I use pure distilled water. The water I make is in a 4 liter home distiller. I drink 2-3 liters a day and have been drinking distilled water since 2007 (I changed my drinking water to distilled water gradually during a few months). Many people living in dry areas or in the North drink water that is equal to distilled water (rainwater or water made from melted snow) They don’t have any specific health problems related with water. People living in other areas with water having high level of mineralization often have more hardened blood vessels and may have related health problems. More information about the distilled water is here: http://aquariusthewaterbearer.com/doctors-and-experts/

Advantages of raw food

Why the raw MFZC diet is better than the cooked ZC diets? – Raw food breaks itself easily, has an ability of autolysis and digests faster. Actually genetically we aren’t designed for cooked food and many years of evolution did not adopt us to cooked food completely. For more information you can read here: https://rawdiets.wordpress.com/article/, https://rawdiets.wordpress.com/raw-food-is-self-destructive/ , https://rawdiets.wordpress.com/the-pottenger-experiments/. If you are afraid of parasite contamination, you may eat defrosted meat and fish (naturally parasites prefer to stay and live inside people who eat cooked and processed food). More information is here: https://rawdiets.wordpress.com/parasites-do-not-like-raw-food/

SOME SIMPLE TESTS ON THE MFZC DIET

After using the raw MFZC diet for about one year a sensitivity to different food products increase. It becomes easier to determine more exactly what is good or bad for your body and brain. Actually the body and brain are the most excellent testing devices if they are not suppressed and tricked by eating the wrong food. You may use them instead of many medical tests. I have tested some products in addition to the MFZC diet and every used food product was tested separately. Results of some tests can be different for other people due to their genetic, quality and kinds of meat or fish. But methods to determine quantity of every product and what products are good or bad for you stay same and can be used by everybody.

Test on butter.

This test was during April 2018. I have added organic butter to the MFZC diet. After about 2 weeks I started to have some changes. The noticeable changes were: increasing feeling of thirsty and dryness in the mouth, increasing feeling of tiredness and decreasing clearness of mind. Genetically we aren’t designed to consume milk and dairy products after about 1-5 years of breastfeeding. Most people continue to use milk and dairy products during all their life and don’t pay attention to some of the negative side effects. (https://nomilk.com/) Conclusion: it’s better to not eat butter.

Test on eggs

This test was during February 2018. I have added organic eggs to the MFZC diet. After about 1-2 weeks I started to have some changes. The noticeable changes were: more dry skin on soles and lips and decreasing clearness of the mind. Eggs have some powerful enzymes and hormones that initiate and start the process of the chicken’s growing. What kind of processes the eggs can initiate and start inside our bodies especially in the old age? We still don’t know. Also eggs are a seasonal food and genetically we aren’t designed to consume them at least all year. Conclusion: in general it’s better to not eat eggs.

Testing the regulation of the body weight on the MFZC diet

The test was during the last 3 months 2017. I tested a case to regulate my weight (I’m quite slim). I increased my daily portion of meat to 1200g (400g morning and 800g evening portions). In a few months my weight was significantly increased. My body started to look more fat than slim. I definitely didn’t like it and decreased the amount of meat gradually to 600g (200g morning and 400g evening portions). My weight has been returned to my normal (slim). I didn’t test the quantity of the fish. Also I didn’t test different fat/protein ratios but always buy more fat pieces of beef. The noticeable changes when I was on the 1200g portion were: increasing the body weight, decreasing speed of physical and mental reactions, increasing the desire to sleep after eating and a more lazy condition during the day. Conclusion: it’s quite easy to regulate weight on the MFZC diet, it’s better to not overeat even if you are on a very healthy diet.

Test on amount of the fish on MFZC diet.

This test was during September 2017. I tested eating fish every morning instead of the meat. After about 1 week I started to have some changes. The noticeable changes were: feeling more hungry (in spite of eating quite big portions of the fish) all day before the evening meat meal, decreasing the clearness of mind. Conclusion: big amounts of fish (maybe influence of mercury?) are not good on the MFZC diet. Small amount of fish (moderate portions of fish 2-3 times a week) gives some additional nutritions and microelements making the diet more stable and able to satisfy better (https://rawdiets.wordpress.com/article/).

Test on salt

The Himalayan salt was tested for 2 weeks on August 2017. I have added 2-4 g salt to my evening portion of meat. The noticeable changes were: feeling of heaviness in the body and head, feeling of kidneys (usually you don’t feel your inner organs if they are healthy), increased thirst and light brain fog. Conclusion: it’s better to not use salt.

Testing the size of meat pieces for eating

The test was during spring 2017. It was tested with ground beef that I am used to eating before I did the test, the meat that was cut into half inch pieces (I have started to eat this meat after the test). I made 2 piles of meat – one was from ground meat, the other was from cut meat. On the top of the piles I made cavities and poured some water into them. In the cut meat pile all the water soaked in immediately. In the ground meat pile, the soaking in took up to 40 sec. The ground meat behaves as a piece of clay. In the stomach the ground meat can delay digestion. In it the meat and fat particles stick together into a big piece and interrupt fast soaking of the stomach acid. After this test I use only cut meat. Usually I cut meat and its fat into half inch pieces and eat the fat first. If some pieces are difficult to chew, just swallow them. They digest very good and meat and fat doesn’t need to be chewed for a long time. The noticeable changes were: feeling of heaviness in the stomach after eating becomes much lighter, meat digests faster and the bowel movements are more regular, the desire to sleep after eating is less. Conclusion: it’s better to not eat ground meat. It’s interesting that same conclusion had Dr. H. L. Newbold and his patients (https://zerocarbzen.com/2015/05/04/dr-h-l-newbold-on-ground-meat/). He had other and opposite explanation about the harmful influence of the cooked ground meat (that it digests faster). It’s possible to check precisely which explanation is more right but is it worth to do if the conclusion is same?

Testing the necessity of fish in the MFZC diet

The test was during the winter months 2017. I tested the MFZC diet without the fish. For about a month I didn’t feel any difference if compared with the full MFZC diet. Later I started to have some changes. The noticeable changes were: craving to eat other products, feeling that something is missing, feeling not satisfied and decreasing the good lightness in the body. Conclusion: It’s better to keep fish in the MFZC diet.

Tracey recovers from allergies, fibrocystic breasts on carnivore diet

I have hesitated for some time to submit my story. I think in part because I began a very low-carb diet in May 2017, prior to hearing about the Carnivore Diet challenge. I was aware of Amber O’Hearn and others avoiding plant foods. My husband and I had been vegan for just over 5 years prior to adding animal foods back in our diet in March 2017. By May, our plant food consumption had greatly diminished. This was quite a switch for me, as I have long been an advocate of ‘eating your dark leafy greens’ and always promoted eating lots of veggies.

So that is where this story begins!

I think what most people don’t realize is that nearly every single person in the Western countries is eating a plant-based diet. The average protein consumption is only about 12-15%.

Since age 4, I developed pretty bad allergies. While still young, I had an episode of my knees buckling in while getting off the couch. We did eat meat (and potatoes) growing up, yet I was diagnosed anemic, and given iron pills.

I think I long had a sugar addiction, something I thought I had gotten over years back. Funnily enough, as a vegan, I ultimately was consuming an entirely sugar-laden diet, even if I avoided refined sugars. However, I was long led to believe the ‘complex carbs’ – whole grains and beans – were good for balancing blood sugar. Fibre too.

Needless to say, I have had pretty severe hypoglycemic blood sugar swings, which of course worsened while on an entirely ‘whole foods, plant-based’ diet – despite all that fibre. My blood pressure is low. I would have orthostatic hypotensive super dizzy spells when I would stand up from sitting. Quite often, I would have to put myself down on the ground, as I could feel the lights going out. Even then, I still had that horrid feeling of falling. I would have mini seizures right after. This occurred more and more frequently while trying to make the vegan diet work. I did it all, from high raw, fruit-based, low-fat, low-protein, low-sodium to grain and bean based, macrobiotic style. I ate tons of greens, sea veggies, and all ‘the right stuff’ (vegans still try to tell me “I didn’t do it right”).

Needless to say, I watched myself age dramatically on a vegan diet. My skin became grey ashen looking. I felt like wrinkles were showing up pretty regularly! I often looked haggard when waking up.

My hair was falling out each time I brushed. My vision was worsening. My memory, recall, and retention were not up to par and I was increasingly feeling more and more fatigued. It was very hard to get motivated in the morning.

All this was happening while being in the ‘holistic/alternative’ health care, trying to do health coaching. What a joke! I even wrote 4 books on eating a whole foods, plant-based, or macrobiotic diet, all of which I have since unpublished.

My husband and I were doing plenty of training. Meanwhile, our progress was seeming to stall. I had constant tendonitis somewhere or another. Elbows, wrists. Knee issues. In fact, I just really had stiffness and pain all the time. It really took a lot of work to loosen up, and feel okay and ready for my day.

While plant based, I ate bowls full of cooked porridge. My husband and I were clearly craving protein more and more as time went on. We were adding beans and nuts to the porridge. I kept feeling like I needed more, yet I was full. By the day’s end, I had that lovely ‘lower belly kangaroo pouch’ ~ my not so endearing term. Bloating, constipation and low moods became more constant as time went on while eating plant based.

Then there were the major sicknesses every single winter. We do treat many people who get sick with acupuncture in our clinic. Sure enough, we each would take turns getting sick as well. One year, while eating mostly raw, I actually had what looked like adult chicken pox. Major chills and fever. Major! I had chicken pox as a kid too. Another year, I had laryngitis so bad, I thought I really damaged my vocal cords. Not a sound could be made! These illnesses lingered for weeks. Once upon a time I worked in a busy tourist restaurant, in Aspen, CO, and I was the one that picked up everyone else’s shifts when they were sick!

By the time the winter illness would finally subside, I was hit with allergies that dragged on for well over another month. I basically began each year sick. I had phlegm that never went away. Sinus problems. Difficulty breathing well. (But I believed dairy caused these problems. Not sure why things were not clicking in my mind, as I had not had dairy in years!)

People may wonder why we lingered so long. It is difficult to break these mental associations, and marketers and pushers of these plant-based diets know this.

The signs were certainly adding up. But, we had watched all the propaganda films (Forks Over Knives, Earthlings, et al.) and read all the plant-based doctor books, and believed these guys. I even took T. Colin Campbell’s Plant-Based Nutrition certification course!

The reason we actually switched from a paleo diet prior to vegan to begin with was because Don’s first wife developed breast cancer. She and he had been paleo for 10 years, the length of time it takes for cancer cells to multiply enough to be palpable. She passed away just shy of turning 50.

I developed excruciatingly tender, fatty, and uneven sized breasts shortly after her diagnosis. This put the fear in me. Don also had prostate issues. His dad has prostate cancer. We were sure that the only thing that could be a problem was the meat and saturated fat. Of course, that is what is pushed, especially by those plant-based doctors. The fact that eating grains and beans again, including soy, after a year or more of abstaining helped my condition to totally subside caused me to be certain we were on the right path once we were vegan. His prostate symptoms also cleared.

Interestingly, while high raw, fruit-based, my fibrocystic tenderness returned, albeit without the enlarged, clearly fatty and unevenness as they were prior. That ended that way of eating.

In addition to the fibrocystic breast condition, I had also reached my lifetime highest weight at 127#. I am only 5 feet tall! We also attributed that to the paleo diet, esp. meat + fat. I mean, how could it be the vegetables and berries, after all! (I get it now, just didn’t then. Carbs + fat = big insulin problem!)

It takes some time to experience the deficiencies, depending on previous diet. So much of these symptoms I had either always had, and hoped to see an improvement, or just kept thinking required more time to resolve.

Despite all the fiber, I also had constipation. Irritable bowel is probably better description. I was actually beginning to develop hemorrhoids as well.

I am sure once I submit this, I’ll think of even more issues experienced while plant-based, but this was probably excruciating enough to read!

The good news? Since eating a high protein, nearly carnivorous diet, I have regained a sense of myself again. I regained lost vitality. I am developing lean muscle and strength while training, whereas progress seemed hard to notice previously.

I immediately had clients tell me how much better I looked. My skin brightened up. My hair no longer falls out. I don’t have constipation, although I do take magnesium, nearly my only supplement, other than getting adequate sodium. My body composition has definitely changed. I feel like a new person. I now steadily weigh 102#. I essentially lost 1/5 of my body weight. Nobody believes me tho! My excess fat has always been in my lower body.

I have regained my confidence, lost while feeling so bad about myself for feeling so bad, especially when I’m supposed to be reflecting health as part of my profession. I no longer have cravings, mood swings, or lack of focus. My entire outlook and ability to function as a human has so greatly improved, it is truly like getting my life back. The life I was meant to live.

I am regretful for sure of lost vitality. I get nasty comments from vegans on my YT channel. This has all been quite a journey. I now have a new book out, and I know with 100% certainty having been there, done that, that meat + fat is where it is at. I am now bullet-proof to the misleading information and propaganda.

If you’ve read this far, all I can say is don’t go vegan! As we age, we need all the more protein. It’s not as easy to recover either. But, the body is super resilient. I began to feel so much better immediately upon eating meat again. It has only gotten better since. I would say I am still wanting to see certain areas improve, but there are other factors impacting our health besides diet. I trust this process, and I am in it for the long haul. Animal foods are nutrient dense, and there is no doubt that my symptoms were from major micro and macronutrient deficiencies.

Thank the Gods for people like Dr. Shawn Baker who calls it as it is, despite this crazy PC world we live in with a seemingly clear agenda to push veganism. Nearly every one of our clients believes that eating plant foods is healthy. We did too once. It’s a hard belief to break.

When I was 19 years old, I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. After one clueless doctor after another, I decided the way I was going to get well, was to take matters into my own hands. I was a pizza delivery guy at the time, and I came across Gary Null’s Natural Living radio show. He preached a vegetarian diet, preferably vegan, and cited countless health benefits in living that lifestyle. It made perfect sense to me, so I adopted the veggie life. 2 years into it, I was wondering, what the heck is the deal? This isn’t working like Gary said it would. But at that point, I was so brainwashed by the vegan propaganda, that I knew I’d get healthy eventually if I kept detoxing, cleansing, meditating and exercising. Another year or two later, I decided to go a more drastic route, and became a raw food vegan.

I was eating seeds, nuts, fruits and vegetables in their raw, uncooked state. For the first time in my life, I felt a shift in my health. I started to feel a lot better. The raw food diet made sense. I became so passionate about it, that I would tell anyone and everyone. I started only dating girls who were raw vegan. I went to raw vegan potlucks and events. I was hooked. At one of the events, someone told me about the 80/10/10 diet, and how that was the ultimate form of eating raw vegan. I gave it a try, and was hooked even more! I felt invincible. I was running everywhere I went. Strength was going up. I felt like a kid again. I went and got nutrition certifications, so I could have some credentials when I started teaching people how to eat this way.

My first blow came when I went to the dentist, because one of my teeth literally broke in half one day when I was sitting there. It just fell apart. That was kind of strange. I had 17 cavities at the dentist. 17!!! I ended up having 3 teeth pulled because they were rotten beyond repair. They couldn’t even do a root canal on them. My teeth were rotting out of my skull like I was on meth. What was the raw vegan remedy? Green juice of course! I started juicing the daylights out of greens. 6 glasses a day. Which of course, upset my stomach a great deal. Man is not meant to be drinking green juices.

Anyway, after the dental incident, I started noticing other symptoms I couldn’t ignore anymore. My anxiety and social withdrawal became a BIG problem. I couldn’t go out in public anymore. I started having phobias too. In addition to that, my Lyme Symptoms started coming back worse than ever. I used to be able to watch muscle spasms in my legs and arms like it was an entertainment show. My digestion became so bad that I could only digest fruit. Not even a salad. My body temperature dropped so low that I couldn’t even be outside if it wasn’t 80 out. And I kept the heat on 78 in my house in the winter, while wearing thermal everything. I decided to finally realize veganism was destroying me, worse than the Lyme Disease ever did. Every good thing I experienced on the diet was only temporary.

For about 10 years after veganism, I went from one diet to another. Ultimately, I settled on low carb paleo, because they made me feel best. My problem though, was always intense cravings for sweets. And I always gave in to muffins and cookies. This went on for years. One day on Facebook, I came across the concept of eating a zero carb diet. I didn’t see how this was possible. I actually laughed at and mocked the people doing it. Until I started reading stories and seeing how healthy people looked.

Eventually, I said screw it, and gave it a shot. I felt HORRENDOUS, and gave up after 5 days or so. Then went back to my mostly paleo diet. I bounced back and forth between paleo and carnivore about a dozen times, before finally realizing that carnivore is THE diet. Nearly every ailment or symptom I’ve ever had is completely gone. My digestion is better than it’s ever been in my life. My energy is outstanding, like I’m 18 again. I have absolutely no cravings (except for coffee, because I love it so much). I feel more like a man. I feel strong. Confident. My mental clarity is on point. My sex drive is alive and well. My 10+ year dandruff issue cleared up. My gums stopped being swollen and bleeding, which is a problem I dealt with since childhood. It’s almost miraculous what this meat based diet has done for me.

What do I eat? Mostly beef: steaks and hamburgers. Occasional ground turkey or something in a pinch. Occasional bacon as well. I eat about 1-2 dozen eggs a week. I drink a cup of black coffee a day, rarely two cups. I use kerrygold butter. I’ve tinkered with cheese and heavy cream a bit. They don’t agree with me at all, so I cut them out. I’m pretty much beef, eggs and coffee only. This diet has given me my life back. And if one struggling vegan reads this and decides to make the switch, then this was all worth writing out and submitting!
