Raymond lost weight, improved his pre-diabetes, digestion, eyesight, brain fog, sleep on a carnivore diet

My name is Raymond. I am 5 foot 11 inches and weigh about 185 pounds.  At my heaviest, I weighed 252 pounds and waist size of 44.

 

I have been a carnivore since September 15, 2017.  Looking back now 2 years 5 months later, I am so glad I made that decision.

 

I had many health issues, including pre-diabetes, plantar fasciitis, rosacea, mid-back pain, arthritic knee and finger joints, heel spurs, poor libido, high triglycerides, low HDL, pre-hypertensive  blood pressure, snoring, dandruff, acne, diminishing eyesight, poor wound healing, irritable bowel disease, chronic constipation, hemorrhoids, constant brain fog, insomnia and more.

I felt so bad that there was a point during one of my IBD flare ups, that I was wondering how will I make another 5 years with feeling so awful. Every year it seemed that all my symptoms kept getting worse. I remember when it all started when I was 35 years old and that was the point I could not lose weight anymore. By the time I was 40, I was spending around 30 min to 1 hour 3 times per day in the bathroom. I was highly constipated, I would have leg numbness every time I came out of the bathroom.

I would spend a lot of time thinking of food and I had a insatiable appetite. I would often go out to eat with friends and if they had anything leftover on their plate, I would ask if I could eat their leftovers. I would also do that with my family. I ate around 5 or 6 times per day.

 

My Diet prior to carnivore was sugary cereals, microwave foods, hungryman, chimichangas, lasagna. I ate a lot of fast foods, Burger King, Subway. I also drank from one to two liters of pepsi per day, I also drank sweet tea, juices, etc.. I avoided water.

In the past, I was always searching for this “magic pill” to treat my many different ailments. I tried all kinds of detoxes, supplements, homeopathic, herbals, juice fasts, I even did 1 week of veganism, that was hell. Most of these had a short term effect but it would never last.

In my youth I was a typical youth that played football, baseball, basketball, ran track, tennis and any sports that I could get my hands on. I also got into weightlifting, all this began diminishing and at 35 was my last foray into weightlifting and I gave that up in 2 months.

 

I never knew how much of a carbohydrate/sugar addict I was, until researching other’s going through the same thing. That is what gave me the resolve to go through the carnivore diet and treating it like an addiction. I never knew that I could be that guy that can now eat every other day, hardly think about food, able to do incredible feats that seem to get better the longer I am on the diet.

 

Current diet is meat and cheese. I took away cheese this January, thanks in part to the Meatrx community that showed me how much impaired many other carnivores are with dairy. In that process it seems that I am getting rid of my remaining issues. I am still experimenting.

Last year I did an experiment for 6 months of alternate day eating then for the last 3 months I added 2 days a week of no food. I will be repeating this experiment again learning from the errors of last year. For example I constantly had cold extremities but I think I figured out a way around that this year.

 

In less than 2 years, the carnivore diet helped me heal completely, or put into remission, most of these ailments. Some have not fully resolved, like dandruff, acne, heel spurs, but they are drastically less and even more so now that I quit dairy.

 

Not only do I have less ailments, but I also have much more energy and strength. I can do so much now. After carnivore I joined karate and jiujitsu. I do my workouts at Orange Theory (HIIT training). I started hiking and love it. Because the pain is gone and my energy has increased, a world of activates have opened to me that I never enjoyed before.

I have run a 5k, 10k, and a 10 miler so far with just Orange Theory as training. I can do 50 consecutive pushups. I can now run a 7-minute mile. As a side benefit, I gained a 6 pack.

Marion improved her back pain, digestion, skin and energy on a carnivore diet

My partner ( he is 67)  myself ( 63)  began the meat diet last March.  If we hadn’t  did this way of eating we would not have believed it.  I am of indigenous heritage and did believe we should eat as our people did, but somewhere along the line we are convinced this is wrong.  Luckily we didn’t totally buy into it and still ate meat everyday and enjoyed the fat but when we went strictly meat, eggs and dairy the results were unexpected.

We noticed right off the hop how much energy we had (almost ADHD..lol) Sex drive way up.  As continued it was amazing, NO MORE BLOAT OR GAS.(  I had taken up eating one particular salad with brussel sprouts and broccoli and the bloat was unreal ) sugar cravings went away,  sleeping better, no snacking & eating twice a day usually, sometimes once,  different kind of hunger, the rumbling/shakes didn’t happen,  just felt hungry,   skin tags gone, no more hang nails,  hemorrhoids gone ( I had for years), our arthritis went away and backpain decreased significantly, we both have more muscle definition, the muscle is harder/tighter & we are definitely stronger,  (we don’t go to gym, our work over the years & daily living has given us good muscle)  Our eyesight has improved. I apply beef/pork grease on my skin and people have commented on how amazing my skin looks.  They thought I was wearing face makeup and one commented did I have surgery! Incredible. Not only that but my eyebrows are growing back in after going years with only half brows.

My partner is growing just not thicker hair, but brown hair & on places there wasn’t any, the white hair is turning brown on his head and chest.  He was also taking high blood pressure and gout pills after appx. 3 months he discontinued use. ( I did not take any pills) Our attitude was happier ( not so cranky) and his depression decreased and eventually disappeared.  My anxiety disappeared as well.  

Overall,  we have found the majority of  people think we are killing ourselves with “ so much fat /meat/butter etc.”

Note: when we have fallen off the wagon we notice the arthritis, hand nails, gas etc. return.   Hence it is motivational for us to continue with the meat.

My brother was doing keto previous to our diet change and we thought wow, that’s a little too much meat and ignored the diet.  Once again goes to show how manipulated we were even though we knew better.  

My daughter decided to give it a go and she has had amazing results as well.  She is 43 and when she went to her doctor for check up she stated her test results were “ off the chart” and what was she doing.  When she said the Carnivore diet,  the doctor didn’t say a word!  Interesting eh?

Stephen improved his muscle mass, digestion, and skin on a carnivore diet

From my teenage years I fully believed in the calories in / calories out theory. I believed that carbs were good for you and I looked pretty good. 
I even competed in a body building tournament (all natural, no steroid show)
 
I played semi-professional soccer and competed at a reasonable level in tennis (winning one singles tournament)
 
 
As I got older I began running and being really active. I did not smoke or drink. I ate porridge with skimmed milk and bananas and freshly squeezed orange juice. Healthy eating was my thing. On a trip to the United States I had egg white omelettes for the first time. I was the poster boy for calories in / calories out. I avoided fat. I even did 6 months on a soy based diet (worst I had ever felt)

I got into running and even in my forties was running some great times. I include this because even though I was doing all this I was getting fatter! Also I was getting  sicker. Nothing seem to make sense.

I suffered from the following;
Rashes to the forehead, athletes foot (for over 10 years) pains in the lower right quadrant (I had a colonoscopy) I developed a cataract, I was pre-diabetic and I was overweight. Yet I was eating right and doing activity and not smoking nor drinking?
The final straw was having a heart scan. The CAC is the ultimate measure of how well your heart is doing. My score was 639. This is the highest possible risk (you want it to be zero) and it was made apparent that according to my score I likely to have a heart attack before I left the hospital! The bands of risk go 0-100, 100-200, 200-300 and high risk is 300-400. I was above the high risk. The point being. It really is high.
 
So I did research and saw that I’d been misled about food. I dropped the carbohydrates, starch and fruit and saw immediate improvements.  
 
  • My weight dropped dramatically in just three weeks when I decided to go full carnivore!
  • My athletes foot went
  • My pain in my stomach went away
  • My rashes on my forehead, gone.
  • My hunger diminished
  • I started to eat more! (but the right things)
  • Bowel movements improved
  • I noticed a complete lack of gas!
 
The less carbohydrates I ate the better I felt and looked.
I am lucky that I am in the health and fitness industry so I can take my bloods and as a qualified phlebotomist can look at my results and interpret them.
All my bloods improved.
 
I then tried zero carb and tracked my testosterone and other markers. My testosterone  went up by over 30% in 2 months.
Further Improvements
I wanted to now add more muscle and decrease body fat % further. This I have been able to do. Losing fat and gaining muscle required eating more ‘calories’ than recommended.
Yes you can lose fat while eating more food, as long as it is the right food. I tracked my body composition for the next phase. Muscle up, body fat down, bone mass up and visceral fat down. I intend to keep eating this way, I have never felt so good.

Laney lost weight, improved anemia and fatigue on a carnivore diet

It’s New Year’s Eve 2018, and this time last year I was making lists and action plans for how I might once-and-for-all get to the bottom of my digestion problems. “This will be the year,” I would think as I would set out at the top of that willpower mountain only to make a steady trail downwards and backwards. I would tell myself, I will drink more water than ever, I’ll eat kale, collards, and spinach, I’ll cut down on meat to once a week max… I’ll have my plate be mostly vegetables. I tried soaking my grains, slow cooking my food, juice fasts, bone broth fasts, water fasts, I tried yoga postures for digestion, a regular evening walk, going vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten free, grain free, paleo… I did the Whole Life Challenge three times, the Whole30 several times a year, I tried staying on the Whole30 for 100 days… I did the GAPs diet, I tried eating only once a day; eating 3 times a day; grazing all day; not eating after 4pm, I tried the Low Fodmap diet, the SCD, I saw doctors and specialists, I had abdominal x-rays, ultrasounds, a colonoscopy… I worked with a nutritionist (for a year!), received regular acupuncture, took Chinese herbs, went to naturopaths, did colon cleanses, saw Mayan Abdominal massage therapists… At one point I tested positive for SIBO and stuffed myself with supplements like goldenseal, oil of oregano, bitters and all manner of digestive enzymes, Berbercap, 5htp, ABD5, Interphase, Floradix. I did two rounds of Rifaximin and Neomycin but the SIBO kept coming back.

I was “being so good”, doing everything I was supposed to be doing! I’d see slight improvements but eventually all of my symptoms would return. Nothing was actually healing me. And not only was I chronically constipated, I had all kinds of mysterious health issues about which doctors would always shrug and say, “Let’s just watch it and see”. I was always getting “benign tumors” including a lump under my arm, a lipoma on my shoulder blade, an enchondroma in my finger that caused the bone to fracture, a uterine fibroid, fibrocystic breast tissue… I had mysterious skin rashes, rosacea, vision problems, and constant whooshing (tinnitus) in my left ear. I had problems falling and staying asleep, I had bizarre inflammation flare-ups in my joints including one in my knee that was so debilitating that I could not walk without a cane for several months. I had interstitial cystitis, irregular cycles, headaches (including ocular migraines), and I was also depressed, anxiety-ridden and anemic. There were days when I could manage to go to a barre class only come home and sit parked in the driveway for half an hour or more trying to muster the energy to walk to my front door. I was miserable. I was red-faced and so bloated that I looked 5 months pregnant. I would wake up with a day planned and by 10 in the morning I would have to start cancelling things because I was so inflamed/in pain/bloated/exhausted and emotionally drained. I was missing out on time with my kids, with my husband, my friends, my life.

I felt I had tried everything and I was miserable. And then I tried going keto. I started seeing a slight shift in regularity, I started having more energy and better moods, I was sleeping better… I started learning everything I could about ketosis and macros! I was tracking and peeing on sticks and trying amazing keto recipes like graham crackers with cream cheese frosting!! Then I heard about micronutrients and slammed on the breaks. The fear set in and I was worried that I might not be getting what I needed if I wasn’t eating my greens and other “superfoods” so I added collards back in and immediately the tinnitus came back. I added in berries and avocado and I became constipated again, my energy dropped, the moodswings returned. Then one night I was listening to Anthony Gustin’s podcast and heard Dr. Shawn Baker talking about carnivory. I thought, you know what? I have tried EVERYthing else… What have I got to lose by trying one more thing? So, I threw my hands up and went carnivore.

That was September and now, 4 months later, every single one of those symptoms I mentioned above have disappeared. In six weeks went from 156lbs to 127lbs (and have now stopped weighing myself because I couldn’t care less about the scale). I went from CIC (chronic idiopathic constipation) to having several -at least two- bowel movements every day. I can make plans with confidence because I am no longer a slave to mysterious physical and mental health issues. Today my diet is simple. There is no guesswork, recipe scouring or fretting over whether this dish is “legal”. I eat mainly beef, pork, elk, and fish. I can have small amounts of cheese but I don’t do well on eggs or yogurt. I do not miss anything that I used to eat. I do not feel left out when others partake in things I cannot eat because I have my health back and that is way more delicious than anything else imaginable!

Michael improved his mood/mental health, skin, vision, and weight loss, and treated his addiction, arthritis, chronic fatigue, and GERD on a carnivore diet

Hiking in September 2018 at 286 pounds – before starting the Carnivore Diet

I am 55, I’m 6-2 and 228 lbs. right now. Six months ago I was 283! I drive semi cross country for a living, big luxury truck with sleeper and all. Fridge, microwave, TV all that stuff. It’s very hard to eat right on the road. I’ve tried just eating grocery store food in the truck, but I still would overeat and rarely lost weight. Donuts and snackcakes and anything else. I used to go to Sheetz (gas station chain) and order like 8 loaded hot dogs with fries or chips and a half gallon of chocolate milk. I would literally eat myself sick but couldn’t stop! Acid reflux was always an issue, I would take Prilosec twice a day, Tums, Maalox whatever. Many of you know this all too well. I’ve known for years I’m grain sensitive but what can you do? They are very hard to avoid! I wore 2XL T shirts but they were getting tight.

264 pounds – January 2019

One day I was ready to buy a 3XL shirt, but I stopped myself. I said “No, this has to stop right now!” I refuse to get bigger. I stumbled onto Dr. William Davis video and then stumbled onto maybe Dr. Jason Fung or some keto video. I said “hey maybe I can try this”. I started a keto-ish diet on Nov. 25, 2018. It morphed into mostly carnivore, and mostly once a day eating. I didn’t plan that. Chicken and turkey weren’t filling me up, so beef it is now! I eat 2-3 lbs. of fatty ribeye daily now with maybe cheese and walnuts or pecans as snack. Black coffee and water only. I take several minerals, fish oils and a few multivitamins. I fry in animal fat or butter only. Not much fasting so far.

  • I’ve lost 55 lbs. in six months!
  • I feel better than ever.
  • My itchy dermatitis went away.
  • My chronic sudden crap attacks are gone.
  • My acid reflux(GERD) is gone
  • My arthritis is improved but not gone.
  • I swear my vision is slightly sharper, can’t be sure.
  • I sleep better.
  • The bloating and extreme fatigue are gone.

I do have some pancakes with syrup maybe twice a month. They are my weakness, but maybe one day I will stop that also. I am in control now of my life!

Carnivore flexofighter improved Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Symptoms on a carnivore diet

November 2017 marked the start of a serious decline in health for me through a series of unfortunate events. To make a long story short. I experienced a severe adverse reaction to an antibiotic in the class fluoroquinolones. What makes this toxicity different to an allergy is that even when you stop using the medication your symptoms don’t necessarily stop. This drug can cause serious long lasting and even permanent side effects and damage leading to disability and even death. It has black box warnings by the FDA. Some reacts immediately and from only 1 pill and others need to take a higher does or multiple courses before they react. 

The reasons for this reaction in some is not completely known. It took me only 4 of these pills to be severely ill. I became a floxie but was determined not to be a floxie forever! Amongst other things I developed severe allergies to many foods, histamine intollerance, digestive issues, vision issues, hearing issues, brain fog, heart rhythm issues, my teeth became translucent, my cycle stopped and I lost a ton of weight. (15kg’s in a little more than a month). A doctor concluded (amongst other things) that my mitochondria was not functioning as they should, I experienced severe oxodative stress, my thyroid was affected and I had tons of nutritional deficiencies. I was in pain (Everywhere) my joints were popping and cracking like an 80 year old’s

. I gradually and naturally progressed from a plant based to a more meat and fat based diet and felt better daily. WOW WOW WOW! The last 10 months I have been dirty carnivore and the gains I have felt and seen during this time is just indescribable. I will forever be grateful that God brought this WOE over my life. All the symptoms  mentioned have gone away, have not even had a sniffle in 2 years and I have even started Ice skating. I just started working out again yesterday and can not wait to see what great things awaits! Health feels WONDERFUL! Thanks Dr Baker, Saladino and all the other Carnivore docs!!! You guys rock!

Lauren improved her fitness, mood, mental health, and vision on a carnivore diet

This is my daughter Lauren. We live in the Blue Mountains near Sydney, Australia. Lauren has been with us since she was adopted at 2 1/2 years old. She was born with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and her body and mind is always very busy. Her main symptoms have been:

  • Facial features associated with FASD.
  • Hyperactivity.
  • Lack of focus.
  • Delayed development and problems in thinking, speech, movement and social skills.
  • Poor judgement.
  • Problems with eyesight.

She has now been Carnivore for 5 weeks, but the changes to her life occurred within 24 hours of this way of eating. We started the day before school returned after the summer holidays, and the changes in her behaviour were immediate. She’s now calm and still, absorbing information with an open brain, rocking her times tables, and her reading ability has sky rocketed. She brought home a merit award for great attitude and diligent effort in classroom activities. She spends hours participating in constructive play, and last weekend the whole family watched a movie from start to finish with everyone glued to the couch. She knows all there is to know about her favourite subject of horses, and she is crushing her twice weekly Crossfit sessions. She struggles a bit with steak but loves a good roast chicken with lots of skin. The carnivore diet has been life changing for her and her future now seems so much brighter.

This week was Clean Up Australia Day and the whole school participated in pickibg up rubbish in the neighbourhood and all students were rewarded with a Super Dooper Ice Block. Things did not go well and she had an extreme sugar high followed by the low but it was a good learning curve for her and she has declared not to partake in treats at school anymore.
