Hello Dr Baker:
My name is Raymond. I am 5 foot 11 inches and weigh about 185 pounds. At my heaviest, I weighed 252 pounds and waist size of 44.
I have been a carnivore since September 15, 2017. Looking back now 2 years 5 months later, I am so glad I made that decision.
I had many health issues, including pre-diabetes, plantar fasciitis, rosacea, mid-back pain, arthritic knee and finger joints, heel spurs, poor libido, high triglycerides, low HDL, pre-hypertensive blood pressure, snoring, dandruff, acne, diminishing eyesight, poor wound healing, irritable bowel disease, chronic constipation, hemorrhoids, constant brain fog, insomnia and more.
I felt so bad that there was a point during one of my IBD flare ups, that I was wondering how will I make another 5 years with feeling so awful. Every year it seemed that all my symptoms kept getting worse. I remember when it all started when I was 35 years old and that was the point I could not lose weight anymore. By the time I was 40, I was spending around 30 min to 1 hour 3 times per day in the bathroom. I was highly constipated, I would have leg numbness every time I came out of the bathroom.
I would spend a lot of time thinking of food and I had a insatiable appetite. I would often go out to eat with friends and if they had anything leftover on their plate, I would ask if I could eat their leftovers. I would also do that with my family. I ate around 5 or 6 times per day.
My Diet prior to carnivore was sugary cereals, microwave foods, hungryman, chimichangas, lasagna. I ate a lot of fast foods, Burger King, Subway. I also drank from one to two liters of pepsi per day, I also drank sweet tea, juices, etc.. I avoided water.
In the past, I was always searching for this “magic pill” to treat my many different ailments. I tried all kinds of detoxes, supplements, homeopathic, herbals, juice fasts, I even did 1 week of veganism, that was hell. Most of these had a short term effect but it would never last.
In my youth I was a typical youth that played football, baseball, basketball, ran track, tennis and any sports that I could get my hands on. I also got into weightlifting, all this began diminishing and at 35 was my last foray into weightlifting and I gave that up in 2 months.
I never knew how much of a carbohydrate/sugar addict I was, until researching other’s going through the same thing. That is what gave me the resolve to go through the carnivore diet and treating it like an addiction. I never knew that I could be that guy that can now eat every other day, hardly think about food, able to do incredible feats that seem to get better the longer I am on the diet.
Current diet is meat and cheese. I took away cheese this January, thanks in part to the Meatrx community that showed me how much impaired many other carnivores are with dairy. In that process it seems that I am getting rid of my remaining issues. I am still experimenting.
Last year I did an experiment for 6 months of alternate day eating then for the last 3 months I added 2 days a week of no food. I will be repeating this experiment again learning from the errors of last year. For example I constantly had cold extremities but I think I figured out a way around that this year.
In less than 2 years, the carnivore diet helped me heal completely, or put into remission, most of these ailments. Some have not fully resolved, like dandruff, acne, heel spurs, but they are drastically less and even more so now that I quit dairy.
Not only do I have less ailments, but I also have much more energy and strength. I can do so much now. After carnivore I joined karate and jiujitsu. I do my workouts at Orange Theory (HIIT training). I started hiking and love it. Because the pain is gone and my energy has increased, a world of activates have opened to me that I never enjoyed before.
I have run a 5k, 10k, and a 10 miler so far with just Orange Theory as training. I can do 50 consecutive pushups. I can now run a 7-minute mile. As a side benefit, I gained a 6 pack.
Hi, my name is Mark, aka The Carnivore Grandpa. I would like to start by thanking
meatrx.com for inviting me to share my story. Thank you for all you do.
I am 56 year old husband, father, and grandfather. Married to the love of my life for 36 yrs,
father of six wonderful children, and Grandfather of 12. They are all my whole world, and my
greatest movtivation for staying healthy. My wife and I live in Northern Ontario, in what I think is
one of the most beautiful places on earth.
I grew up on a farm and was physically active and fit when I was younger. I am 5’10, when I
graduated high school I was 155 pounds. Two years later I married my highschool sweetheart
and we began our life together. Graduated collage as a Registered Nurse. During my training
we had minimal teaching on nutrition other then to refer to the Canada food guide.
At the age of 24 I was advised by my doctor to change professions due to joint pain which he
believed was brought on by shiftwork. At this point I had gained alot of weight due to poor
eating habits. I felt miserable, tired, no energy, and achy joints. Ironically, I started more labour
intensive work and was able to lose some weight and began to feel better. As the years went by
and I got older and continued to eat whatever I wanted gaining and loosing weight sporadically,
in spite of this I remained in realitively good health, I thought….
At 35 I had reached my heaviest weight yet at 205 pounds. I put on the weight and could no
longer take it off. After a visit to my doctor I was told I had high cholesterol and needed to make
some changes. I was sent to a dietition who told me to cut back on red meat and fats but that I
could eat all the pasta and starches I wanted to fill me up. I was informed the I needed to
increase my fibre in the form of fruits and vegtables. I now know this was terrible advice.
However, it was what the dietition had been taught and the misinformation continues.
A few years later with my cholesterol levels increasing I was also diagnosed with high blood
pressure. At this time I was still eating from the food guide, but decided I should include some
weights to try and help get this under control. In spite of adding 20 to 30 mins of exercise a day
it did absaloutely nothing to change my health or my body composition. By this time I was also
experiencing increased achey joints and had also developed occasional gout. I was still
suffering from fatigue and fluctuating moods and energy levels. I was on a roller coaster. I now
know that at this point I was extremely metobolically unhealthy. It was a wake up call.
In 2017 my wife and I discover the ketogenic diet through Dr. Ken Berry. We jumped on the keto
train and have never looked back. I lost 45 pounds, most of my joint pain, and my energy
increased. My toes although still stiff did not ache from gout. I felt like a new man. I went to my
doctor for my annual check up and after taking my blook pressure she asked me what I had
been doing as my blood pressure had dropped substantially. I informed her I was on the
ketogenic way of life, and she was extremely supportive. I was sent for my bloodwork and my
lipid panels were much better. NO MEDICATIONS NEEDED! In hind sight I wish I had
consumed more protein as to prevent lean muscle loss on keto. I felt good but I felt I was a little
too thin, I felt I had lost to much lean muscle mass. I know there is some contradiction out there about this, I can only share from my own experience.
After a year on keto I began to become interested in what was called the carnivore way of
eating. I decided to try it for a month, seemed extreme but I was open and intrigued and not
afraid of a paradym shift. As I was only eating 20 carbs a day on keto, I thought removing those
last 20 and switch to meat and animal by products couldn’t hurt. After a month on carnivore I
noticed the rest of my joint pain and the stiffness in my toes disappeared. I also noticed that I
was putting on some muscle, and felt my body compasition was changing and become more
define without added exercise! I was motivated! I made the decision to continue for 6 months.
I again went in for a check up as we have been monitoring since starting keto every 6 months.
After taking my blood pressure my doctor asked me, okay what are you doing now. I hesitantly
explained my new way of eating as a carnivore. My doctor who was pleasently suprised and
happy to inform me my blood pressure was in the low normals. She then proceeded to grab a
lab requisition and enthusastically began checking off all the things she wanted my blood
tested. We were both thrilled to see the all my bloodwork came back excellent.
Due to my excellent lab work and how great I was feeling I decided to remain on carnivore as a
way of life. I have been on eating carnivore since May of 2018. During the first year of carnivore,
aside from my physical job as a builder/carpenter, I didnt do much extra exercise. In the last six
months I have begun to incorporate some dumbell weight training and I have seen some
fantastic results, unlike when I was eating all the food groups and had added exercise where I
saw no results.
To date; I have decided to up my exercise regine to see how far I can take this.
I want to encourage those who are reading my story, if a 56 year old Grandpa of 12 can do this
and see such wonderful results so can you. I highly recommend this way of eating, it has been
a game changer for me.
Dear Dr. Baker and Team,
My partner ( he is 67) myself ( 63) began the meat diet last March. If we hadn’t did this way of eating we would not have believed it. I am of indigenous heritage and did believe we should eat as our people did, but somewhere along the line we are convinced this is wrong. Luckily we didn’t totally buy into it and still ate meat everyday and enjoyed the fat but when we went strictly meat, eggs and dairy the results were unexpected.
We noticed right off the hop how much energy we had (almost ADHD..lol) Sex drive way up. As continued it was amazing, NO MORE BLOAT OR GAS.( I had taken up eating one particular salad with brussel sprouts and broccoli and the bloat was unreal ) sugar cravings went away, sleeping better, no snacking & eating twice a day usually, sometimes once, different kind of hunger, the rumbling/shakes didn’t happen, just felt hungry, skin tags gone, no more hang nails, hemorrhoids gone ( I had for years), our arthritis went away and backpain decreased significantly, we both have more muscle definition, the muscle is harder/tighter & we are definitely stronger, (we don’t go to gym, our work over the years & daily living has given us good muscle) Our eyesight has improved. I apply beef/pork grease on my skin and people have commented on how amazing my skin looks. They thought I was wearing face makeup and one commented did I have surgery! Incredible. Not only that but my eyebrows are growing back in after going years with only half brows.
My partner is growing just not thicker hair, but brown hair & on places there wasn’t any, the white hair is turning brown on his head and chest. He was also taking high blood pressure and gout pills after appx. 3 months he discontinued use. ( I did not take any pills) Our attitude was happier ( not so cranky) and his depression decreased and eventually disappeared. My anxiety disappeared as well.
Overall, we have found the majority of people think we are killing ourselves with “ so much fat /meat/butter etc.”
Note: when we have fallen off the wagon we notice the arthritis, hand nails, gas etc. return. Hence it is motivational for us to continue with the meat.
My brother was doing keto previous to our diet change and we thought wow, that’s a little too much meat and ignored the diet. Once again goes to show how manipulated we were even though we knew better.
My daughter decided to give it a go and she has had amazing results as well. She is 43 and when she went to her doctor for check up she stated her test results were “ off the chart” and what was she doing. When she said the Carnivore diet, the doctor didn’t say a word! Interesting eh?
Thank you for all the info you provide. It is much appreciated.
Marion and Roy from Ontario, Canada
We did forget to mention , although we were not hugely overweight and that was not our reason for doing the meat, I lost 20 lbs. and Roy lost 26 lbs.
I got into running and even in my forties was running some great times. I include this because even though I was doing all this I was getting fatter! Also I was getting sicker. Nothing seem to make sense.
- My weight dropped dramatically in just three weeks when I decided to go full carnivore!
- My athletes foot went
- My pain in my stomach went away
- My rashes on my forehead, gone.
- My hunger diminished
- I started to eat more! (but the right things)
- Bowel movements improved
- I noticed a complete lack of gas!
This is what an 80lb transformation looks like. In fact, the first 2 pics were taken the day before I had a gastric lap band installed. (18 years ago.) 7 years later the band would fail & nearly kill me. I had an emergency surgery & to have it removed. The 80lbs I had lost from the surgery came back almost immediately! I had a band on my stomach, which restricted my food intake, which also restricted my nutrients that lead to poor metabolism, destroyed my hormone health, etc… Since Jan. 3, 2017 I have been effortlessly losing the 80lbs again, but have never restricted my calories, I have never felt starved or deprived! I’m sure I have fixed my metabolic health, hormones, depression, anxiety, cellular heath & much more! Up to July 31st 2018, I was eating #ketogenicdiet . Aug. 1, 2018 (my birthday) I switched to the #carnivorediet … My journey wasn’t just weight loss anymore, it was healing! I’m off 24 meds now, a CPAP machine, inhaler, infusions from the doctors office every 8 weeks, Celiac Disease & IBS under control, no more hypertension that had to be controlled with 4 different meds and ‘3’ Autoimmune Diseases in remission! I’m so thankful that @kendberry.md put a 1 month Carnivore challenge out that August! This way of eating has been life changing for me! Once I had completed that first month of Carnivore, there was NO WAY I was turning back! I had forgotten how it felt to feel good… I couldn’t remember ever feeling as good as I did in my life! People may think I’m strange for this way of eating! I don’t care, it’s working!
I just want to share my health journey with you & maybe give someone a little encouragement. I am not where I want to be yet, but I’ve come a long way… I had been struggling for about 6 years with a LOT of symptoms that couldn’t seem to be diagnosed. So many different symptoms that I was sent to a Rheumatologist, Pulmonologist, Cardiologist, Hematologist & a Neurologist. As you can imagine, all of these Specialist found something to diagnose me with. And naturally they all began prescribing the meds… Lots and lots of meds! 26 different medications to be exact. This took them about 3 years to do… So for the second half of the 6 years I should have been feeling better all medicated up, right? Nope, instead I ballooned up to 234lbs & actually felt worse. The diagnosis was Depression, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Chronic Fatigue, Sjogren’s Syndrome & Celiac Disease. Plus, I had Hypertension & Sleep Apnea, with a touch of Neuropathy. I decided to try to take charge of my weight on Jan. 3, 2017 with the Ketogenic Diet that I had heard about. Plus, it would be gluten-free for the Celiac Disease that I had just been diagnosed with. Well, I lost 80lbs in just 1 1/2 years… I discovered that this way of eating was definitely going to be sustainable. I felt like there was more benefits that I could be getting out of this way of eating, because I had heard & read stories of people healing their depression, etc… The only thing I had under control was the Celiac Disease. This is when I took the Carnivore Diet challenge… I thought what the heck, my weight is stalled so I might as well give it a try. I don’t think 2 weeks has passed into this Carnivore Diet I noticed that I was walking better, I didn’t have all the nagging pain I suffered with daily & I was sleeping better! I had some of my regular doctors visits during this time… Guess what?!?! My blood work started coming back amazing! So amazing that my Hematologist was scratching his head trying to figure out what was going on… In 3 years that he’d been working with me & giving me iron infusions had he seen my numbers so good. I told him I knew why they were so good & why I’m feeling so good. I don’t think he wanted to hear what I had to say, but I told him anyway. I told him about the Carnivore Diet! He just did a face plant in his hands while shaking his head & mumbled “I’ve heard this a lot lately.” In the next few months, I never lost any more weight. But, more amazing things started happening! I lost inches, I was able to come off of 24 out of 26 meds & I was able to stop using my CPAP machine!!! I want to share, share, share this info with you… Wishing to give hope to others or give someone the courage to try Carnivore if they are having qualms.
I only wish I would had known about Carnivore Diet sooner. Let’s all get the word out!
