Lee’s fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression symptoms have cleared up on a carnivore diet.

I am 71. I’ve been on keto and carnivore for 2 months and I can’t remember feeling this good.
I was raised on meat, potatoes and vegetables. Then I ate vegetarian, and vegan. The vegan diet was hard for me and I never felt good.
Depression, anxiety, and back injuries were constant during my adult life. Latter I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.  I also developed ovarian cysts, so ovaries were removed when I was forty, and I had to get used to very low estrogen.
When I started eating keto and carnivore I QUICKLY noticed a difference because depression and anxiety vanished. It’s hard to describe how I feel, so I’ll just say I feel wonderful. The fibromyalgia has gone and hopefully with time, my back will heal. It’s only been a month on carnivore.
I urge you to try carnivore. I wish I had always been on this diet.
Now I know plant toxins are real because of the oxalates my body has stored in all my organs, bones, glands and tissues. I’m experiencing oxalate dumping, but I still feel better on carnivore than any plant based diet. No more vegetable oils, tofu or nuts and seeds. I’ve always loved eating meat and now I don’t feel bad about it. Meat heals.

Brittney improved her mood, join and back pain and lost 40 lbs on a carnivore diet

I didn’t even realize how much pain I was experiencing day to day until I went carnivore and then didn’t have the pain anymore. I used to have pain in my lower back, neck, knees and ankles. I dealt with significant fatigue every day, some days I’d get home at the end of the day and just sit there for a long time in my car because I didn’t have anything left to walk in the house. I thought it was normal being a mom of three to just be tired all the time. Since starting Carnivore 8 months ago my life has changed. I no longer have pain in my body every day. My husband used to get asked to rub my back and ankles constantly and one day I realized it had been weeks since I’d asked. I no longer experience the restless leg syndrome that was something I dealt with every night for years.  I haven’t sat it my car for twenty minutes waiting on the energy to go inside.

My mental health has improved significantly. I don’t have any diagnosis’s surrounding it but had normalized the level of stress and aggravation I was dealing with, I am significantly happier, more calm and more patient now. My anger isn’t something I feel like I’m constantly having to control because it’s not there like before. I’m a better mother and wife because of this. I was experiencing what I would consider depression around ovulation time for about a year.  It was overwhelming sadness that I could not snap out of for two to three days. That doesn’t happen anymore. After about six months being CV my cycles began to be lighter and shorter and with less pain. I used to have to take ibuprofen for cramps and now I don’t need to. I still have cramps but the pain is a bearable level.

My adult acne cleared up. My libido made a return, it’s been gone since I was a teenager. I’ve been a mother for 11 years and my sex drive was just gone! Now gradually it’s coming back. Life has become easier because meal planning and cooking has never been simpler. I don’t stress about grocery lists and prepping or planning like I used to. Less dishes, it’s awesome!  I’ve been able to incorporate exercises into my life for the first time ever in my life!  I had two skin tags on my neck that fell off, my Grey hair is turning dark again at the roots!   Before CV I’d only ever been able to stick with any way of eating for 30 days.  Two weeks in I notice I didn’t crave all the carbs and sugar like before and that has made this possible to continue and even easy. I’ve never in my life known what it felt like to not crave bad food. I’ve lost 40lbs at this point and it feels almost effortless.

Sean improved his fitness, chronic joint and back pain, and lost weight on a carnivore diet.

My story:
When I turned 40 in July 2017,  I was “living a good life” filled with “good food” and “good booze”.
What wasn’t good was my health. I was fat. My back hurt. My knees hurt. When I bent over to tie my shoes, I couldn’t breathe. I was always tired because I had a bad case of sleep apena. I was pre-diabetic. I was on blood pressure medication. I thought that’s just how life went when you were over 40.

Just before Halloween that year, I was introduced to the idea of a ketogenic diet and, after some research, I realized I could eat bacon and lose weight. I decided to give it a try and, for the next year, I ate a strict keto diet, usually staying under 20g of carbs daily. My protein came mainly from chicken and fish with some tempeh (soy) thrown in. My fat sources were ghee, olive oil, and coconut oil. I included most of the “dark green, leafy vegetables” that people are so enamored with. I ate a boatload of caesar salads with chicken.

I lost a bunch of weight, going from ~315lbs to ~240 (I’m 6’1″, btw).
I lost athletic performance. I had no gas in the tank. I was lighter but my strength was not what it used to be.
I also lost my sex drive.
Then my weight loss stalled.

I decided to take a hiatus from keto and just watch my calories. I gained some weight back over the holidays and decided to go back on keto in January of 2019 and saw no changes.

In March of 2019, I stumbled upon Dr. Ted Naiman, Dr. Paul Saladino, and Dr. Shawn Baker and the Carnivore WOE. That month, I decided to give it a try despite the objections of my girlfriend and my mother, a retired RN. I did make my mother a promise to get my labs done monthly to ensure I wasn’t killing myself.

In the first month, I saw my strength and sex drive come back with a vengeance! I went from being able to do 0 pull-ups to 8!

Now, I usually eat once a day (OMAD) and fast for the rest. Here’s what I’ve seen:
    • Weight is down to 220 lbs
    • 3lbs of visceral fat as of June 2019
    • bench press and deadlift are now up to over 300lbs
    •  allergies are gone
    • asthma is gone
    • blood pressure is awesome and I’m off medication
    • sleep apnea is gone
    • snoring is radically reduced
  • knees and back don’t hurt
  • testosterone level is awesome
  • thyroid is working great
Basically, I’m 42 and I feel like I’m 22!

Now, here’s the super cool part:
Also, after seeing my lab results each month, my parents made the decision to go carnivore in June. For my mother, it was about losing weight and breaking her carb addictions. For my father, he did it to beat a cancer he’s been fighting since 2013. His scans in September showed the tumors shrinking and that was with no other new intervention aside from diet!

Cory improved his chronic joint pain and mood on a carnivore diet

I’m Cory, I was a chubby kid and by 26 I was fat and very unhappy with myself.

I started going to the gym in hopes to “lose weight”. After lifting for awhile I got addicted to the iron and lost touch with how fat I was, because I was getting strong. At 30 years old, I juiced (vegetables) all summer and got down to my lowest weight of 172 lbs. I was weak and following a low fat diet that was completely unsustainable. When I was 36 years old, I listened to Dr. Lustigs Sugar: The Bitter Truth and heard about the ketogenic diet through the JRE podcast. Within a few months I was full blown keto and had dropped 30 lbs before I even realized it.

For the most part I remained keto with some meat only days, up until I turned 38. I was noticing some positive changes besides fat loss that I hadn’t expected. I had previously been diagnosed with arthritis in a couple of my neck vertebrae. Before the gradual change to carnivore I had felt I was turning to stone and a quick movement of the neck could easily ruin my week. After following carnivore for a few months I was not having as much joint pain after suffering for years. I would say I’m now 95% carnivore overall, but I feel better when I’m 100%. I’ve gotten cold sores all my life and haven’t had any since going LC/ZC. I noticed my overall mood and personal interactions with people are better. My adult forehead acne went away. I prefer fasted workouts but my first meal is soon after.

I typically eat twice a day and as much as possible. I do eat organs, dairy, some seafood, eggs, coffee but mostly beef. All my lifts are going up and the general clearheadedness makes achieving goals seem easier.

1st test, keto 6 months (very typical keto foods)
2nd test, keto/carnivore (more animals, lots of plants still)
3rd test, 95% carnivore (last salad was 48 weeks ago)

Keto is great, but cut out the plants and things just improve on another level.

Nancy improved rashes and digestive issues on a carnivore diet

I have been suffering asthma since a toddler, varicose veins requiring surgery and custom compression stockings since my first pregnancy and severe morning sickness with all of my pregnancies.

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis 17 years ago, and severe constipation after taking Calcium supplements for the osteoporosis while maintaining a healthy version of the Mediterranean diet. I have had a big garden and used very little processed food and I ground my own flour and became an expert home whole grain bread maker since 1977.

I had to stop using Calcium supplements and but the constipation persisted with menopausal onset. I tried eating prunes, more butter by the spoonful, figs, more fibrous vegetables, more fresh fruit, and of course lots of whole grain bread and porridge every morning. I eventually resorted to eating extra bran and then soluble vegetable fibres from a bottle, but now I had terrible problems with bloating and gas which inhibited my social life extremely. Who wants their health problems to be the brunt of jokes and eventually a definer of one’s identity.

About 12 years ago my toes began to swell badly on my left foot. Towards evening and after a good walk they would swell, turning red with purple tips and often would develop a crack on the tips of my toes. The pedologist said it was frostbite, even though it was summer and I had never had frostbite before!

I had another bone scan about 12 years ago and was told that I had a 100% chance of breaking my hip within 10 years and was prescribed Fosomax to which I had a very serious reaction due to very low calcium levels even though I was eating dairy and making yogurt regularly. Insoluble fibre depletes one’s body of Calcium as well as other important nutrients so I stopped eating bran and drank more milk like my Doctor suggested. Soon after, a different doctor ordered some tests and discovered that I have Hypothyroid disease.

One Christmas I got a bad stomach flu and diarrhea which emptied my gut and my husband wanted to try a herb cleanse, but after researching I suggested using lemon juice instead which was great and became a part of my daily diet since it helped to promote digestion and to reduce bloating. Since then I suffered several intestinal infections and had to take antibiotics and then started to take probiotics regularly. I was able to control symptoms by eating very little meat except for salmon and by taking daily lemons, probiotics, and a 4 hour fast before drinking >4 cups of milk in the evenings.

Last summer my skin broke out in 5 different rashes including ringworm which was not diagnosed until October. I had to plaster my body with the anti fungal and since most of the rashes were unaffected, I was given an oral anti fungal for 4 weeks. Still, 4 of the rashes remained. I had some relief and did some research on Hashimodos disease with the prodding of one of our daughters. The doctor ordered some further blood work which revealed low sodium, low T3, normal T4, and very high antibodies (99). He said to cut out dairy. “BUT WHAT ABOUT MY BONES?” He said to reintroduce it again in 4 weeks and that it would not deplete my Calcium levels significantly.

But after more research I decided to try the Autoimmune Protocol diet. It did help with a lot of the bloating and gas and one of the rashes faded slightly but my toes were still extremely painful and swollen by the late afternoon.

I had heard of Jordan Peterson and his daughter and the Meat Only diet and had wished that I could do that but I was so afraid of not getting enough calcium and concerned about getting constipated and being hospitalized and since I was 139 lbs and 5′ 10″ I was sure I would wither away to nothing and so was my family. And I was already following an unusual diet. But after 10 days on the Autoimmune Protocol diet, I WAS DESPERATE, much like Doreen in her amazing you tube videos!

The toe pain was excruciating and the leg rash was burning and bright red and my cheeks were aflame and lo and behold I got a new and different mottled rash all over my face.
And so I am now a Carnivore. I decided to continue taking lemon before eating in order to hopefully prevent constipation and I haven’t had any problems since quitting the vegetables. I cut back the black coffee by 50% and I thought that in order to get enough fat while using leaner cuts of meat from our freezer, I would use butter while cutting out all other dairy. From the start, I took my supplements as well but with encouragement from the Carnivore community and especially due to Dr. Shawn Baker’s work, after 2 weeks I eliminated all of the vitamins, butter, and lemon and am now eating only beef with some lard so I don’t fade away and water and salt and black coffee . I am so encouraged by my health’s progress so far. The rashes have almost entirely disappeared except for the occasional flare up due to the silicone band on my compression stockings. And my facial skin looks better than it has since I was a kid. My tummy is as flat as a pancake except for the overly stretched skin from so many years of bloating, and the mucous in my sinuses and bronchial tubes has healed.

Even though I have several bulging and herniated disks and have been suffering from sciatica and other pinched nerves, with shooting pains and numbness in my feet and legs and arms and hands, those aches and pains have greatly diminished, I am able to sit and type this out in one sitting. Before I started the Carnivore diet, I had to keep moving because of numbness and pain.
It is now 3 1/2 weeks since I started this delicious Carnivore lifestyle. I am hoping that my inevitable progression towards even more compounding problems with antibodies triggering worsening Autoimmune complications will be abated. And for the last 2 days my energy is increasing and I don’t have to lie down several times during the day.

I am 68 years old and found myself running behind the shopping cart as I left Costco 2 nights ago. I was down in weight again this morning, 123 lbs but am working on eating more fat plus at least 2 lbs meat/day.

Thank you so much to all of you for sharing your experiences.
