Carnivore Success Story: 

Growing up on a ranch I learned early that meat was healthy. I have been on a meat-based diet for my whole life. Probably less so during my college years. I contracted mono during my freshman year. Otherwise I was healthy except for the occasional low iron reading I’d receive at annual checkups. I attributed it to running and heavy periods. Fast forward to my last pregnancy at age 39, when the doctor told me my blood sugar was too high and that this could lead to compilations. She gave me a blood sugar testing kit. I could monitor my blood sugar throughout the day.  It didn’t take me long to realize how much what I ate affected my BS level. I began sticking with a mostly meat diet through the pregnancy and never had to use insulin shots. After pregnancy I returned to more normal meat-based diet. In 2013 I struggled through a West Nile “like” virus. The test for West Nile was negative but my doctor thought it was very similar to it and for lack of a better idea we treated it like that. The fatigue was like when I had Mono, in addition it seemed that each week or two a different system would be under attack. For a while it was hard to breathe, headaches and fever came and went. I lost over 20 pounds. After a few weeks my breathing seemed normal, but my digestive system was challenged. At one point the doctors thought the gallbladder needed to be removed. When that subsided, I was left with constant loud tinnitus 24/7 along with night sweats and chills.

This gradually improved and life became more normal; the tinnitus returned at the end of the day or would return 24/7 when I became fatigued from lack of rest. I caught every flu and cold bug that came around. Allergy symptoms were constant so that I took a pill every day to keep symptoms under control.   I also couldn’t exercise very hard or my muscles would become very tight and the tinnitus would return. This resulted in regaining more than the 20 pounds I had lost from the illness, and it was not muscle. I became flabby and gained more weight around my waist than I’d ever had. It seemed like any additional stress brought symptoms back and I came down with viruses and infections often. 

In 2016 I met a trainer who helped me stay focused on exercising twice a week. This helped strengthen my body and I gained back much of the muscle I had lost. However, I was still about 20 pounds heavier than what was normal for me in my 20s and 30s. In September of 2017 I began the Carnivore diet. Since then I have lost the tinnitus and the extra body fat, while increasing my energy and strength. My body composition has never been better. I rarely need to take an allergy pill. I have not been knocked down by the flu or cold for days at a time since eating this way either.  

I really didn’t think I’d see a huge difference in my health because I’d eaten a meat -based diet my whole life.  I’ve been amazed and feel blessed to have found what works for me. Many thanks to the MeatRx team for spreading the good news and helping me and so many others.

My experience with going carnivore probably isn’t as dramatic because I grew up on a ranch and have been a life long meat eater. However, I can document the benefits of going all meat compared to meat based.

As of December, 2017 I’ve been carnivore about 5 days a week and just low carb the other two days since September 15, 2017. Weight down 15 pounds. After a month my sister, who is in charge of a dialysis unit, told me I’d lost my visceral fat. She said that’s the mid section fat. I could tell it by clothes fitting looser. 

In the gym I’m lifting heavier than I ever have.

This is my story (sorry, i can’t write just in a few words
 
 

First of all I’m an ex-vegetarian (10 years) plus ex-vegan (5.5 years).

My health wasn’t perfect since my childhood: allergies to pollen and home animals, genetic psoriasis, super sensitive gut, digestive problems always, acne (especially during vegan phase), unexplained PCOS, amenorrhea.

First serious psoriasis attack was at 15 y/o – first hormonal and school stress. 

At 18 i became vegetarian and felt relative good. At 24 I got pregnant (shockingly to every body around , especially to doctors). The told me it was impossible to have health pregnancy and to give a birth. But it was a gift from heaven and my boy was born. Yes, not perfectly healthy: small, bilateral cryptorchidism, atopic dermatitis, food allergies . But he developed breastfeeding gut and quick.

After pregnancy i got very aggressive psoriasis attack, was hospitalized. Hormones, hormonal creams and so on… and  in 2 years after very low calorie diet of very high lean protein  (no fat) my psoriasis attacked me again… it was the first time when it appeared after sun exposure! Normally sun helps me.

So i decided to try veganism. And in the beginning during “vegan honeymoon” everything was fine for about 1-1.5 years. Psoriasis was  calm, no hormones, no medicines. But after 1.5-2 years of veganism a lot of digestive problems appeared, acne blossomed everywhere on my skin, herpes appeared every month… and bloating, farting, emotional unstability, no libido, insulin tummy, quick aging… i was 26-32 y/o during my vegan story. I tried everything from vegan diet: hclf, 90-10-10, raw vegan, fruitarian, banana islands, raw till four and so on… nothing helped longterm. Psoriasis started to come back. 

At one moment when i started to bleed during pooping… and felt miserable from all these gut cramps and pain… i decided to eat less frequent, and stopped at OMAD (one meal a day). It helped a lot!!! And that way i discovered ketosis 3 years ago. I started with vegan type of keto diet and quickly understood it was almost nothing to eat (thanks to soy allergy). And i started to eat fish once a week, after that cheese… during all these psychological transformations from understanding that veganism was wrong i started to learn science: anthropology, nutrition, physiology, history, quantum physics and so on… i understood the depth of stupidity of going vegan that ruins my health and health of my kid.

So keto helped. I lost a lot of  vegan weight , even too much. And vegetarian keto with salads, oils, nuts, fish and cheese (and tons of supplements!) made me very thin and sick: anemia, no periods, aggressive and nervous, non-healing ulcers on my fingers, very dry skin, some digestive issues … but almost no psoriasis!

Nowadays I’ve been proud and happy carnivore almost 18 months (from june 2018). No supplements. My digestion was never better than on this WOE. My skin glows, my psoriasis is in remissions with some plaques (they appear when i eat not enough fat and too much histamine rich variants of meat and fish). I have some issues with my periods, but no PCOS on ultrasound scan! I eat mostly meat, all types if them, fish and seafood, eggs, butter and organs from time to time. I am looking younger.

And appreciate this carnivorous way of living so much! Thank to meat-eating my son is very healthy and handsome. And his some autistic symptoms disappeared. His mood is stable,productivity in school and piano playing are fantastic, his anemia has gone. He is active and happy child! 

We are still going to the perfect health. And meat helps us!

Sean improved fitness, chronic joint and back pain on carnivore diet

My story:
When I turned 40 in July 2017,  I was “living a good life” filled with “good food” and “good booze”. 
What wasn’t good was my health. I was fat. My back hurt. My knees hurt. When I bent over to tie my shoes, I couldn’t breathe. I was always tired because I had a bad case of sleep apena. I was pre-diabetic. I was on blood pressure medication. I thought that’s just how life went when you were over 40. 
Just before Halloween that year, I was introduced to the idea of a ketogenic diet and, after some research, I realized I could eat bacon and lose weight. I decided to give it a try and, for the next year, I ate a strict keto diet, usually staying under 20g of carbs daily. My protein came mainly from chicken and fish with some tempeh (soy) thrown in. My fat sources were ghee, olive oil, and coconut oil. I included most of the “dark green, leafy vegetables” that people are so enamored with. I ate a boatload of caesar salads with chicken. 
 
I lost a bunch of weight, going from ~315lbs to ~240 (I’m 6’1″, btw). 
I lost athletic performance. I had no gas in the tank. I was lighter but my strength was not what it used to be. 
I also lost my sex drive. 
Then my weight loss stalled.
I decided to take a hiatus from keto and just watch my calories. I gained some weight back over the holidays and decided to go back on keto in January of 2019 and saw no changes.
 
In March of 2019, I stumbled upon Dr. Ted Naiman, Dr. Paul Saladino, and Dr. Shawn Baker and the Carnivore WOE. That month, I decided to give it a try despite the objections of my girlfriend and my mother, a retired RN. I did make my mother a promise to get my labs done monthly to ensure I wasn’t killing myself.
 
In the first month, I saw my strength and sex drive come back with a vengeance! I went from being able to do 0 pull-ups to 8!
 
Now, I usually eat once a day (OMAD) and fast for the rest. Here’s what I’ve seen:
    • Weight is down to 220 lbs
    • 3lbs of visceral fat as of June 2019
    • bench press and deadlift are now up to over 300lbs
    •  allergies are gone
    • asthma is gone
    • blood pressure is awesome and I’m off medication
    • sleep apnea is gone
    • snoring is radically reduced
  • knees and back don’t hurt
  • testosterone level is awesome
  • thyroid is working great
Basically, I’m 42 and I feel like I’m 22!
 
Now, here’s the super cool part:
Also, after seeing my lab results each month, my parents made the decision to go carnivore in June. For my mother, it was about losing weight and breaking her carb addictions. For my father, he did it to beat a cancer he’s been fighting since 2013. His scans in September showed the tumors shrinking and that was with no other new intervention aside from diet!

Hiking in September 2018 at 286 pounds – before starting the Carnivore Diet

I am 55, I’m 6-2 and 228 lbs. right now. Six months ago I was 283! I drive semi cross country for a living, big luxury truck with sleeper and all. Fridge, microwave, TV all that stuff. It’s very hard to eat right on the road. I’ve tried just eating grocery store food in the truck, but I still would overeat and rarely lost weight. Donuts and snackcakes and anything else. I used to go to Sheetz (gas station chain) and order like 8 loaded hot dogs with fries or chips and a half gallon of chocolate milk. I would literally eat myself sick but couldn’t stop! Acid reflux was always an issue, I would take Prilosec twice a day, Tums, Maalox whatever. Many of you know this all too well. I’ve known for years I’m grain sensitive but what can you do? They are very hard to avoid! I wore 2XL T shirts but they were getting tight.

264 pounds – January 2019

One day I was ready to buy a 3XL shirt, but I stopped myself. I said “No, this has to stop right now!” I refuse to get bigger. I stumbled onto Dr. William Davis video and then stumbled onto maybe Dr. Jason Fung or some keto video. I said “hey maybe I can try this”. I started a keto-ish diet on Nov. 25, 2018. It morphed into mostly carnivore, and mostly once a day eating. I didn’t plan that. Chicken and turkey weren’t filling me up, so beef it is now! I eat 2-3 lbs. of fatty ribeye daily now with maybe cheese and walnuts or pecans as snack. Black coffee and water only. I take several minerals, fish oils and a few multivitamins. I fry in animal fat or butter only. Not much fasting so far.

I do have some pancakes with syrup maybe twice a month. They are my weakness, but maybe one day I will stop that also. I am in control now of my life!

Phillip improved digestion, mood, mental health, and skin on carnivore diet

My name is Phillip,  I’m a 32 year old former combat medic.
I started as a sick kid. Hospitalized a couple of times for asthma, and I was on constant medication starting at 4 years old. I had severe allergies, severe acne, orthodontics for palate expansion, headgear to correct an underbite, cavities; I was pudgy and had glasses. I was a bit of a nerd super-stereotype. That finally started to change when I found Crossfit in 2008 and I was completely transformed. I went from a high carb video game player, to a paleo eating weightlifter. I converted my whole family. We ate paleo-ish, worked hard and had a lot of fun. My mom has her level 3 cert and is the head coach/owner at our family gym, aptly called Nearly Perfect Crossfit. She’s now competing in the Masters’ Crossfit open.

Oddly enough, HIIT seemed to make me no longer need any asthma medication. When I started, I could barely run 400m without needing an inhaler. After about 6 months I had stopped taking my daily meds and only the worst metcons even gave me a tingle of asthma. I woke up every day at 5am and trained like it was my job, but I needed something to pay the bills. I wanted a career that would allow me to continue my fitness journey. I had been a sick kid all my life and I desperately wanted to cling to my newfound drug-free existence. So I joined the Army as a medic. I loved being a medic; I loved the job, I loved the mission. My duty station was a little cold in Fairbanks, Alaska but I was determined to make the most of it.

When I deployed to Afghanistan 2011-2012 I started the deployment with a robust fitness plan in place. My starting weight was 180lb. My lifts were going up and we had access to a great gym every other week. On the other week we used a makeshift gym and got our lifts in that way. Though the name “Globo Gym” and its motto, “where we’re better than you and we know it” were pretty much a giant troll on the Crossfitters, I was extremely grateful to the creative carpenters who fashioned it, and shared the place with the rest of us. It was all in good fun.

Unfortunately we got traded to another battalion after the first three months. We spent the rest of the deployment moving from place to place and tearing down small combat outposts in Kandahar Province. We were constantly were without equipment, and I resorted to squatting my best friend Z and lifting blocks of concrete.

Overseas It was getting harder and harder to stay fit on MREs and crappy food, little sleep and constant movement. Some of us had a harder time than others maintaining our fitness overseas and I was one that gained 30lbs.

Some was muscle. Some was definitely not. I blamed poor food and my bad attitude for the problem and when I was given time off on our return from Afghanistan, I vowed to get myself back in gear because my symptoms of the long-gone asthma were returning.

However, I found that it was increasingly difficult after deployment to lose weight and keep it off. I was having energy problems, focus problems, and really strong bouts of anxiety. And I know what you’re thinking; maybe it’s PTSD! No, it wasn’t that kind of deployment. I did get my CMB (combat medical badge) but it was for a minor injury and none of my friends were hurt. I was not mentally traumatized. But I was sick. At the time I didn’t know with what.

So things continued as normal until I got a really cool job at the Brigade Surgeon Cell, basically I assisted in outpatient procedures every week and updated a tracker for following up with the status of the injured soldiers from our deployment. I learned a lot in this job, but I was having the hardest time focusing. I went to see behavioral health to find out if anything was wrong. They gave me a battery of tests and I scored above average in every category except one: focus/attention. I scored 30% in that test and was diagnosed with adult onset ADD. So I started taking Methylphenidate. Well, I was able to do my job, but my anxiety got worse….and the underlying condition seemed no closer to being handled. So it was now time for me to leave the Army and I was honorably discharged in 2014. I did my 4 years, now I was going to school. In the meantime I was health hacking. I was trying to get to the bottom of whatever it was that was wrong. I was starting to not be able to recover from workouts…a simple Workout of the Day would render me cripplingly sore for two weeks or more. I was just kind of stumped.

I hypothesized that perhaps it was the ADD meds that somehow were keeping me in a sympathetic nervous system dominance of sorts. So I discontinued the meds but the damage seemed to be done. In Afghanistan, I got up to 220 and I got back down to 185 after I left the service, but it was a flabby 185 if I’m honest. I was just inflamed and not the best version of myself when I came back. I was distracted, anxious, even without the meds now, and I was gaining weight. I tried pretty much everything I could think of. I spent the next 4 years studying health and building on the knowledge base of paleo and CrossFit which didn’t seem to be enough anymore.

I tried keto and the neurosis got worse, unbearable. I tried supplementing with powdered greens to get every kind of trace mineral and phytonutrient known to man. I supplemented iodine, 3 or 4 versions. I supplemented vitamin D, emulsified, bioavailable, etc., every permutation. I tried different amino acids, co-factors, fish oils, krill oils, algae oils. I learned that most of what I tried was oxidized so I tried again with different sourcing. I tried alkaline water and it was weird. I did lab work. I did a DUTCH test to see where my hormones were. Estrogen: Super High. Testosterone: Super High. What should I do about that? I don’t know. Probably take a giant box of more supplements. I took binders and detoxes and cleanses. I ordered crazy shit you can only get from Europe. I turned off my router at night and started using my phone on speaker phone in case it was frying my brain. I didn’t use a tinfoil hat but I came close…. I bought a fancy bed because it didn’t off-gas flame retardants. I bought a sauna, I did hair analysis, I bought another round of different forms of every supplement I tried before. I switched toothpaste, soap, and deodorant, anything I could think of. I bought a deep freezer and filled it full of local grass-fed, grass-finished beef I couldn’t afford. Some of the things I tried, I still use, but it was exhausting, and I wasn’t getting results.

Nothing really even touched the problem until I tried digestive enzymes. All of the sudden my cravings for alcohol went away. At this point, I was pretty bummed and I’d started drinking with little regard to my health, so this shift was kind of a big deal. I had been starting to give up. I had swelled up to 225, a new PR! But the enzymes were a little ray of hope. Masszymes was the brand, developed by a vegan no less; turns out he couldn’t digest a wet paper bag without the help of these superpowered enzymes. And don’t get me wrong, they work, but I question their necessity. I started getting my life together again. I was trying to lose the weight and I found this really interesting guy on YouTube named Jordan Peterson who said I might try pulling my head out of my ass and getting my life together. Well ok I said, I’ll give it a whirl. And so I did. I cleaned my room. I did laundry. I washed more than the minimum number of dishes to get by. I put my house back together and finished up a never-ending remodeling project. I started looking for something meaningful I could do with my life besides just keep burning up my GI Bill getting paid to go to classes.

Well here I was starting to get a hold of my life and look for a way to not be the biggest turd on the planet, and around that time we had a family reunion to see the solar eclipse. I realized, to my shame, that my cousin’s wife had been wasting away with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease for the last two years. The last I heard about it, someone else was trying to be a donor, so in my self absorbed pity party I had kind of forgotten about it.

So I was sitting across from her in front of my family’s pool and thinking, “she looks pretty sick still. I wonder whatever happened with the liver thing. Well, she’ll probably be annoyed that I’m asking her two years later. But oh, what the hell, the worst that could happen is that she’ll tell me to f*** off and let her die in peace.” So I ask. First off she’s not offended, I’m a total dweeb. Furthermore she said she’s blood type A+. I’m type A+. So we talked, she told me how the last two people including her daughter weren’t matches, because it turns out being a living organ donor is like winning the lottery. Most people die waiting for donors, she explains. And there are lots of things that can happen to make you lose your place in line. Her MELD score wasn’t high enough to get an emergency status so she was slowly dying in agony, vomiting blood, and experiencing all sorts of nightmarish symptoms. Seemed like she was in a real hell on earth. And a living donor was her best chance at life.

Well, I had been asking for more meaning in life; here was the opportunity. Time to take on a little responsibility and make the world a better place. So I said, let’s try and see if I’m a match. I figured I’m getting a hold of this digestion thing, I’m cutting back on booze, sorting myself out. I was looking for meaning and here was finally a chance to really save a life and feel like I earned my CMB. So I did it. I was a perfect match at literally everything. I was a first-time go at every station and from the August conversation I was green-lit by Christmas, in large part because she would certainly have died if we didn’t do it soon. I lost 20 lbs doing strict keto and going cold turkey with no alcohol at all. Because come on, I can’t pollute the thing if I’m giving part of it away. It went very smoothly. I was able to walk out of the hospital in 4 days. I felt a good deal better in a week. I felt normal in a month and in 2 months I felt as strong as I was before. Really not the big deal physically that I hyped it up to be. However emotionally and spiritually still deeply meaningful. Probably the proudest moment of my life.

Well, now I was healed up, but I was stuck at 200lbs and I wasn’t losing any more weight. The anxiety was coming back and being strict for this long without an excellent motivator was starting to wear on me. My wife and I were eating a giant box of fresh local vegetables every week as part of my recovery plan on keto. I couldn’t figure it out and these enzymes were $300/month. I had previously figured that the weight gain was due to alcohol, and I wasn’t terribly worried because beer drinking and having a beer gut seemed like a fair deal from the universe. However after 9 months alcohol-free, I was still experiencing digestive issues. Something was still not right even with the enzymatic support.

So I did microbiome testing. I found out I had dysbiosis and lots of different opportunistic pathogens! However this does not paint a very detailed picture, so I also did an RNA-based test which shows percentages of different bacteria’s RNA transcription, to determine relative activity. I saw that 58% of all activity was one microbe called Acinetobacter baumannii. So I Googled it. “Iraqibacter” is its nickname. It’s an antibiotic-resistant pathogen that is endemic to the desert that’s famous for killing wounded soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Crap. That doesn’t sound good. If it’s resistant to almost all forms of antibiotics how do you kill it? I found some seriously dangerous treatments but there was a common theme; I needed to get much worse before I qualified for these dangerous interventions. So double crap. I realized that one potential source of this problem might be our prophylactic for malaria; doxycycline. We were ordered to take a dose every day for the entire year long deployment. So having dysbiosis and an antibiotic-resistant infection kind of fit my story. But then the question was why did I seem to have health problems that other soldiers didn’t have? I realized later that most of my fellow soldiers were flushing their pills after the first week because it was making them feel sick taking them. Unfortunately, I was a boy scout and took them almost every day. In the Army’s defense, I did see malaria in the region, and it’s a real battlefield threat that has killed lots of soldiers throughout history. So I don’t blame the Army, even though it created difficulties for me personally.

So I started doing my research again. Ironically, the only folks who have experience with unknown crazy gut infections, biofilms, and detox protocols were vegans. (Another red flag along with the enzymes.) The vegan Youtubers led me to diatomaceous earth. I tried it. I had crazy reactions and it’s just silica, should be innate. Ok, I was onto something. I took that for a while, and tried coffee enemas trying to get whatever was in there out and killed. It worked, honestly. The vegan community was onto something with their infection mitigation and detox stuff. It begged the question though, why is this peculiar knowledge so prevalent and common among vegans and why is all this health hacking necessary if they’re eating so healthily? I came across turpentine and that’s when I saw some crazy stuff happen. Things started to die but I felt like I was dying too. I found Vegetable Police on YouTube – he has the most hilarious video about turpentine you will ever see. So we were looking at digestion as a potential primary cause of my symptoms.

Then I found Stan Efferding who says basically you can’t digest all those veggies. Like the giant box of organic co-op veggies I’ve been eating faithfully every week for 9 months and paying out the nose for? Those veggies? YEP……ugh. So I cut them out. I felt better. I dove deeper and before I could get any further down this weird cure of avoiding vegetables, I saw Jordan Peterson on the Joe Rogan show, talking about his daughter Mikhaila’s diet and the results he was getting. Sold, totally sold. That fit everything I’d been studying – it made sense with keto, digestion health, and a plan to starve out the infection. After starting on the carnivore diet, I began to feel the effects almost immediately. I lost another 20 pounds, my anxiety plummeted, my energy exploded, my mood was lifted. I felt so much better, I felt like a new human. This part of the story is pretty typical. Just everything went so much better, it’s unbelievable. So unbelievable, I don’t like talking about it, because I sound crazy. Vegetables are the problem? Well, that explains why the vegans know so much about mitigating their effects. It also explains why meat eaters think it’s crazy BS. So that brings me to today. I’m 9 months a carnivore and doing great. I’m still losing weight each week. My vanity doesn’t want me to upload this story quite yet, but I’ve made a lot of progress, and I’m always going to be a work in progress. So here is my before and after.

Give me 6 more months I’ll look even better. Thank you all for promoting this way of eating. It’s these kinds of stories that encourage others to keep pursuing their health and to find real and lasting changes, whatever path it takes for them. My path led me to meat. And though I am no doctor or scholar, as an n of 1, I sure feel like I’m healed. #meatheals

Chris improved his diabetes and mental health with a carnivore diet

On Christmas day 2016 I was admitted to the hospital with an infection on my left arm. It turned out to be necrotizing faciitis, which required numerous debridement surgeries and skin grafts. I spent 7 weeks in the hospital and a year recovering. In my research on the condition, I discovered how much metabolic health contributes to this condition. I was nearly 300 pounds, and a type 2 diabetic. I wasn’t taking care of myself at all and felt miserable. Medications were ineffective and I was getting worse.

In April of 2018, I finally made the choice to make a change. I did a lot of research and found the ketogenic community. I dove right in. I quickly began losing weight while eating very low carb and incorporating intermittent fasting. I forced myself to eat some vegetables (traditional dogma pressured me to) but quickly found the carnivore community after seeing Dr Shawn Baker on the Joe Rogan podcast. Since then I’ve been on an all meat diet and felt better and better month over month. Today I am in the best shape of my life, am no longer diabetic and enjoy living and my family more than ever.

Morwenna improved fitness, sleep, and treated fatigue on carnivore diet

‘Before’ was right around the time I was getting really sick in July 2016. I thought I was healthy. I ate mostly whole foods, no grains or beans or nightshades and very little sugar. I was really trying to push the vegetables thinking that I would soon feel great. Instead, I descended a dark road that led to chronic fatigue, brain fog, depression, general anxiety, social anxiety–napping daily and feeling generally crushed and done with life.

Enter a post on FaceBook by a dear and respected friend. She had some of the same issues and had been on a very strict diet that was making her feel amazing. I immediately decided to start the next morning. This was June 2018. I removed ALL plant foods from my diet, with the exception of coffee–I didn’t think I could function without it.

I had been no-fat vegan for over 2 years between the births of my 1st and 2nd children. When pregnant, I craved meat badly and so added that to my diet. After that pregnancy, I began to experience food and other allergies/intolerances. First was broccoli, then bananas, latex, hay fever, hazelnuts, and last was chestnuts not that long ago–to which I reacted with throat and tongue swelling that really scared me. I did not understand why I would be collecting these intolerances–I was so ‘healthy’!

I now know that I am extremely sensitive to plant toxins. Removing plants from my diet immediately gave me more energy–right away I didn’t need the daily naps. I was feeling really good, brain fog lifted and mood got better–but I wouldn’t class the feeling as ‘great’. Then, in October last year I weaned myself off of coffee and all of the sudden, getting up in the morning was no longer the worst thing anyone could ask me to do! I actually liked getting up in the morning and started making breakfast for everyone (my husband had been doing it for years).

Next, in November I discovered the art and science of fasting. I would do 72 hours fasts back to back (with one meal in between) for a couple of months and I started feeling AMAZING! I even lost weight–32 lbs that I didn’t know I even could/should lose. Come to find, I have small bone structure. I also hadn’t read a book for over 2 years, and reading used to be the love of my life. Now, I am collecting a large mass of books to read. I feel positive about life–I want to DO things. I am no longer hiding in the car and letting my family do all the shopping. I literally had no idea that I was suffering from depression and social anxiety until it was gone.

In January, I joined the gym and I go there most mornings (early!!) to get fit and grab back my life. Sitting and sleeping for over 2 years left me totally out of shape, but that is changing now.

So, I know I can’t eat plants (at least not for now), dairy, or eggs. I have added in green tea and that’s going wonderfully, feel great drinking my daily tea now. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know it’s going to be good. I am going to pursue some sort of education, cure myself of my fear of heights, and hike Mt. Snowdon in Wales.

Annie improved her arthritis and diabetes on a carnivore diet

Annie – 31 year vegetarian now carnivore

Let me tell you a bit about myself, I live in just outside of Brisbane, Australia, I’m 45 years old, have 4 daughters ranging from 19 to 11 years, I work five days a week and am studying a health sciences degree full-time online. I decided to do a Bachelor of Food and Nutrition, after I became obsessed with using food for medicine and good health. I want to help others regain their health as I have gained mine back since starting a ketogenic diet over four years ago, I’m now carnivore.

For as long as I can remember I have suffered from IBS issues – gut pain and cramping, explosive diarrhoea, severe constipation – first seeing a GP for it when I was 14 years old. I never had a weight issue until having my first baby, but it certainly became a huge issue for the next 15 years. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was pregnant with my first daughter and during two pregnancies had gestational diabetes. Over these years I also suffered terrible GORD, repetitive disc bulges, sleep issues, asthma, thrush, recurring chest, sinus and urinary tract infections, major anxiety and depression issues. I had allergy tests done, where I was allergic to 13 of the 16 things I had been tested for and was told I was pre-type 2 diabetic by my overweight GP, who told me I should just expect it as it was in my family.

About 5 years ago, my health was heading south rapidly, with almost daily headaches and weekly migraines. I had a strange turn one day where I blacked out while driving, with my then four-year-old in the car with me. Apparently, I was slurring like I was drunk, but I managed to get my little girl to call the ambulance. I have no recollection of the event, except that I came to with two ambulance officers in my car trying to establish what had happened to me. My husband and police were on the scene when I came to as well, but despite being taken to hospital and tests being done, I never found out what had happened to me – except that they thought the migraine I had, had caused the event.

A few months later I got very unwell with a chest infection, landing myself in hospital for 12 days. My asthma was in a very bad way and I could hardly walk the corridors in the hospital without bringing on an attack. I gained about 5 kilograms during my hospital stay and was referred to a dietician to try to get my weight and health under control. I followed her recommendations religiously as I hated what was happening to me, but all I managed to do was gain more weight. She made me feel like I couldn’t possibly have been following the guidelines she’d set for me and that I was cheating myself.

I’d heard cutting sugar from your diet was good, so I stopped adding sugar on my morning oats and cutting it back substantially from my home baking, which gained me a small win with a couple of kilos weightloss. In November 2014, I then saw a documentary that literally changed my life, featuring Dr Maryanne Demasi, Dr Peter Bruckner, Professor Tim Noakes and Dr Steve Phinney. It was about the low carb, high fat diet and so, fuelled with the small win I’d had from ditching the sugar from my diet, I thought I’d give it a go.

My weight dropped incredibly quickly and majority of my health issues all but disappeared. I haven’t even had a head cold in the four years since starting. Everyone at work gets sick over winter, but I have not as yet. LCHF cured my GORD, disc bulges, asthma, allergies, thrush and I never experienced any more chest, sinus or urinary tract infections. I got stricter with my food choices and went VLC/strict keto, all the while my weight was still slowly creeping off.

At this point I should say I had been a lazy vegetarian for 31 years. I say lazy, as I had eaten fish very occasionally for a few years but never too regularly. I had however been doing a lot of research, reading lots of studies and following some very intelligent people on Twitter. All my research had me concluding that although I was way healthier in my food choices now eating keto, I had to eat a lot more protein than I was. I introduced fish regularly and, much to the shock of my family, I started eating chicken again – it had been 31 years. I started feeling so much better almost immediately, stronger. I then caught wind of Dr Baker’s carnivore study, which, both research and my own curious nature, had me very interested in. Crazy right, as I was only eating chicken, fish and eggs? But I did it, very strictly, ditching coffee, cream, cheese and only eating the chicken, fish, eggs and drinking water. I had it in my head though that I wanted to be brave and try red meat and so set a personal goal to achieve that before the end of the study – I knew for optimal health it was for the best, but I had a lot of mental hurdles stopping me. It came to the last week of the study, I felt amazing but disappointed in myself for not giving red meat a go like I wanted, so one day on my way home from work, I bought a rib eye, cooked it and ate the whole thing. I believe I have eaten at least one piece of red meat every day since.

To date my overall weight loss is about 40kg (or 88lb), with a measurement loss of about 120cm (or 47 inch) total. Hormonally, I have re-gained the 4kg loss I experienced during the study, which I intend on shedding again in the new year. Let’s just say, being a woman is unfair sometimes and the one thing that no diet has helped with is my lifetime suffering from endometriosis. I’m having further surgery in the new year, so hopefully I can get on top of the fake hormones currently circulating my body causing these adverse effects.

So, what happened when I went completely carnivore? Whilst LCHF/Keto helped the majority of my conditions, I was still suffering bouts of IBS issues, some arthritic aches and anxiety. Since going carnivore, I have been able to ascertain that it was vegetables still causing my residual IBS and occasional arthritic soreness. I am physically so much stronger than I have ever been and the recovery from exercise is outstanding. Where I once would have been sore for days and in some instances great pain, I have minimal soreness and generally only the following day, if at all. My mental clarity has been the overwhelming improvement which has me off my medication for the first time in about 10 years. Mentally, I would never have been able to take on such a gruelling schedule of fulltime study, working 5 days a week and four kids before, but carnivore has allowed me that. The first-wave carnivore study began in August 2017, for a three-month duration but I have remained carnivore ever since. I intend on staying this way for the foreseeable future as well for the outstanding health effects it has had on my body and mind.

Maria heals from allergies, joint pain, and migraines on a carnivore diet

During mid-January of 2018 I switched to a carnivore diet out of desperation because despite all my attempts I could not lose weight. I was then 189 lbs. and willing to do anything to stop gaining weight, and to that point all my attempts had failed regardless exercising 2+ hours a day and eating as “healthy” as I could with the information I had at that time. I was following a low-fat diet, heavy on organic plants that kept me always hungry and frustrated with myself; depressed and ashamed. I suffered from chronic joint pain, migraines, severe environmental allergies, and I thought I had to get used to these “normal” changes of my aging body. Working as a Canadian health provider I had never been exposed before to other health preventative measures other than those politically correct, and accepted by the American Heart Association and the Heart and Stroke Canada; which (I thought then) were unquestionably and unanimously viewed as solid institutions where health practitioners and the public go safely to get educated on the “ultimate” guidelines and get answers to stay healthy.

I discovered the Ketogenic diet and decided to try it, and as I really don’t like to measure macros, ratios or any of the such, in a few days I naturally drifted into a meat-only diet. I discovered soon that many others around the world were recovering their health and naturally losing weight by avoiding plant-based food and eating only meat and drinking water.

When the student is ready, the teacher appears and I found Dr. Ken D. Berry and Dr. Shawn Baker. I discovered the carnivore community and I continued to get educated on how mankind evolved and our original diet and I continued to read about the formidable results of many brave and desperate men and women from around the world, from diverse age groups, ethnicities, and genetic propensities were healing from many illnesses.

Today, 6 months later I’m 50+ lbs. lighter eating steaks to satiety when I’m hungry and drinking water to thirst. My workouts are much shorter: 45 minutes of moderate weight kettlebells almost every day and rowing three to four times a week for a few minutes.

I’m full of energy and I feel better than when I was on my twenties, and I’m on my fifties. I feel alert and focused all day. My chronic joint pain and migraines are gone. My outlook on life is much more positive and my mood has been very stable, regardless of changing life circumstances. My allergies are gone: I haven’t needed any bronchodilators, antihistamines or NSAIDS for these last six months! I’m no longer bloated, after years of chronic bowel pain.

After eating my delicious steaks, I experience a deep sense of peace and contentment, a solid sense of wellness that encompasses body mind and spirit. #meatheals <3

Mathieu improved fitness, energy, cardiovascular health on carnivore diet

My name is Mathieu. I am 25 years old and live in Québec, Canada. I started the Carnivore Diet on January 14. I first heard of Shawn by listening to the Joe Rogan podcast. At first, I was intrigued by the benefits Dr. Baker talked about, so I began exploring the Zero Carb diet lifestyle, Keto diet, and diet and nutrition for longevity.

I was constantly bloated, I had a lack of energy, I had to take a nap everyday after work, and I work at a desk in front of a computer all day. I had sleep problems such as sleep paralysis and insomnia. I also began snoring louder with the weight I had gained.

I decided to try the carnivore diet initially for 2 weeks, after which I felt great so I decided to continue. Now 5 months later, I eat steak, butter, bacon, sometimes liver, fish and rarely chicken. The diet is very easy to follow, and grocery shopping and cooking is much simpler than before.

I feel much better overall, my energy is clean and steady, and my thoughts are sharp all day for work. I never get sick anymore. Before I could keep a cold of the flu for a month twice a year. My seasonal allergies are much better, and my skin is clearer and seems to heal faster.

I was able to cut all supplements like creatine, protein shakes, BCAAs, caffeine, pre-workouts, and all those other unnecessary bodybuilding supplements. Steaks are the most potent supplements IMO.

I had been working out in the gym since last July for 6 days a week. At first I thought that without carbs I would lose strength in the gym, but it only increased week after week.

I went from barely deadlifting 225 to deadlifting 405. My cardio is also much better. I feel I can run for much longer during races (I do mostly 5k and 10k obstacle course races). I have the best cardio of my life right now.

I lost a total of 43 pounds since I started my journey and my body composition changed drastically.
