Ken improved sleep, treated addiction, anorexia, fatigue on carnivore diet

My experience with carnivore has been such a surprise with my mental health. I did not expect that. I hoped it would help with my physical appearance.

I am 44 years old. Last summer, I went on a summer camping trip. I looked at pictures after the trip and felt sad and discouraged. I had man boobs, a gut, no definition in my arms, and it showed in my face too. I had low energy and strength. I started to wonder is this it? Middle age? The unavoidable continual decline of my T levels?

This set me into a depression. I have battled depression My whole Life. It has been severe. At 21, on a church mission, I experienced anorexia. I am 240 pounds now. I hit a low of 148 pounds then.

I returned home and began 18 years of alcoholism. The alcohol brought me some relief from the mental states that made the anorexia so severe. The anorexia disappeared, but alcohol brought too many problems with it. I also sought help from anti-deppressants. There was a decade of my life where I tried, I believe, 14 different medications.

They did not work, and some had terrible side effects. I swore off anti depressants forever, when in early sobriety, the pharmacy said my monthly bill would be over 1000$ for 30 pills.

One night, in a gift from Heaven, my friend told me about a diet he was doing.

He was in great shape, full of energy.

I was open to change. That very night, I went home and ate my first carnivore meal. I went all in, 100% strict, no cheating for 1-1/2 weeks straight. I slept better, felt more energy. The biggest surprise of All, was that soul-crushing depression and anxiety faded almost entirely away.

The “bottom” of the darkness was raised up to levels I could manage.

The stricter I am, the better the results.

I also add 10,000 IU vit D/day (max safe upper limit for men) and 3000 or more mg DHA. (It is winter time and I suffer from SAD).

I am sober now with several years sobriety in a twelve step program. I have found that I must do much more than I thought I would have to do to keep myself healthy Spiritually, Emotionally, and Physically, but it IS ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!

Al improved dental health, digestion, fitness on carnivore diet

I was doing some research on veganism a few months ago, and I came across people who were using the meat only diet or the carnivore diet. After seeing the damage done to eating only vegetables, I saw that many people were eating the meat only or zero carb diet. The most notable YouTube videos that were the most compelling were from Jordan and Mikalia Peterson. Assuming they were telling the truth, I found their results were quite remarkable. I’ve been battling weight for most of my adult life, and I have always been looking for a better way to do it. I was never a vegan and I never considered it because the vegans I knew were very bitchy and hot-tempered.

I’m not going to write much here about nutritional issues because I’m not that well-studied in the subject. I’ve heard all sides but this one seemed to make the most sense. I’m in the habit of using the natural law or natural order to make important decisions. I wish I had known how to do this earlier. But the carnivore diet makes sense because before modern times, most of the nutrient rich foods were animals. While some vegans claim there is an ethical issue in killing animals, the truth is that is what we were designed to eat along with plants. It is a part of the natural law so I decided to give it a try based on the Petersons’ testimony.

What I now eat is as follows: chicken, fish, beef, cheese, eggs, and lots of bacon. That’s it. And I’ve been eating like this for 134 days as of this writing.
Here are the results from this test:

  • Improved mental clarity (some may disagree)
  • Improved mood
  • Sugar addiction is gone
  • I had pain in my right shoulder area and that’s gone
  • Hunger is manageable and easy to control
  • I’ve lost a little over 18 pounds since the beginning of this diet and 47.5 lbs from two years ago
  • Macular degeneration is gone. This was a big surprise. I don’t have any more floaters in my eyes
  • Sleep has improved
  • My teeth have stopped deteriorating as I lost three molars last year
  • I’ve had a chronic cough for over 20 years and now that’s gone too
  • Bowel movements are limited to once a day, sometimes two. Sitting on the can once a day is plenty
  • I can get up at 6AM and go through the day until 8PM without a nap
  • Energy level feels like I’m in my twenties; I’m 72
  • Type 2 Diabetes gone-actually did it before carnivore on the plain low carb Atkins type diet by losing weight.
  • I take no more prescription drugs

I thought the Atkin’s diet was good, but this is a little better and easier to stay on without relapsing into the old ways. I’ve completely lost my desire for fruits and vegetables. I’m not sure I want to eat them again. I’m still considering it. With all of the sprays being used in agriculture, it may make sense to stay on the carnivore-zero carb. I like to drink beer but the last time I had one it made me sick and I stayed up all night trying to go to sleep. I’ve learned to just stay away from liquor as I don’t see any health benefits in drinking it.

I’m trying to find some negative effects from this method and I can’t find too many. My social life is different as I don’t want to go out and eat with friends because I don’t want the temptation to eat the rabbit food. I don’t have the desire to have my nightly Margarita as all of my sugar cravings are gone. The money I save from buying crappy food and eating out helps to keep me within my budget. My meat costs are about $200.00 per month and I buy most of it from the local butcher shop. I save money by not buying things like bread, peanut butter, nuts, popcorn, pizza, and produce.

However, I am really perturbed to learn this at the late age of 72 and I’m wondering now if this vegan nonsense is politically motivated. I think it is, but that’s a subject for another time.

Again, I look at the results; if it works, then I think it is useful. I’m still learning about all the nutritional issues, but at the end of the day, it still comes down to results. I haven’t felt better for a long time if ever. I’m actually startled but happy with the results. I see no reason to change anything in the future. If it is working; why fix it?

Adam improved digestion, fitness, mood, mental health on carnivore diet

My name is Adam and this is my carnivore story… MEAT HEALS!

May 12, 2018

Background:

46 year old male slowly became 30 pounds overweight from eating and drinking too much and not exercising. Decided I wanted to get back in shape but despite increasingly strenuous workouts (from 30 to 45 to 60 to 90 to even 120 minutes over 6 months, mostly weight training), only lost 5 pounds and did put on some muscle but couldn’t see it well thru the middle-aged tire/fat. Sore constantly, injured myself 3 times in 6 months pushing too hard to improve my physique. Avoided sugar and processed carbs but still drank too much beer and had too many binge attacks where I would polish off insane amounts of bad food because of intense cravings.

My carnivore story:

Started reading bodybuilding articles trying to figure out where I was going wrong and stumbled onto Vince Gironda’s “steak and eggs” diet for bodybuilders to cut fat and get ripped. He was a trainer decades ago (reportedly once worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger). Just eat steak and eggs at every meal and have a cheat day once a week to replenish body carbohydrate stores. I was frustrated (and sore) and decided to give it a go.

Felt absolutely terrible the whole first week. Never looked forward to a day more than my first cheat day at the end of that week. Low energy, brain fog, diarrhea, aches and pains (more than usual), cold sore on my lip (only get when physical and/or mental stress) – basically felt like I had a bad flu. But I read a lot that week and learned that this was a temporary thing according to the crazy carnivores before me. On the morning my cheat day was to start, I had lost 5 pounds. I also didn’t really feel that hungry.

Ate like a maniac on my cheat day but vowed to try one more week, as many said after two weeks is when things start getting easier. Second week sucked. Felt terrible and told myself if I didn’t feel better by the end of the week, screw it. It wasn’t worth it to feel sick all the time! I still wasn’t very hungry and ate only twice a day (lunch and dinner) and drank black coffee for breakfast and water rest of day. By day 9, I noticed I didn’t really feel like having beers after work anymore (a 20 year habit suddenly gone?!).

When I woke up around day 11, the “keto flu” (as some call it; e.g., carbohydrate withdrawal) was gone. I had higher energy levels than I had felt in months. I felt fantastic! By this time, I stumbled onto this crazy (like a fox) carnivore doctor named Shawn Baker, Amber O’Hearn, the Inuit and others within the internet rabbit hole of forbidden dietary knowledge. I still had a cheat meal at the end of the 2nd week, but I didn’t really need it like I did the first week and I thought of it more as a reward than as a necessity.

It has now been 60 days since the end of that 2nd week. It is my lifestyle now, not a “lose fat” diet. I have already lost all the fat I need to and am now at what I feel is a healthy weight for me. I feel and look great and don’t ever plan on going back. This way of eating has changed my life!

Positive impacts on my life of this diet:

  • Lost 30 pounds in 45 days and now at desired body weight. All while eating until full and snacking when needed. No attempt to restrict calories at all. Most effortless weight loss ever (and I have tried many fad diets over the years).
  • No longer sore for more than a few hours after working out. Ready to go the next day. Seems easier to get stronger and bigger, too. Working out less and seeing better muscle gains.
  • Feel and look 20 years younger. Mentally and physically improved in so many ways.
  • No more heartburn. Ever. Used to pop Pepcid pills like candy.
  • Don’t feel like drinking alcohol any more, after drinking too much for about 25 years or so. Wasn’t part of the plan, but I’ll take it!
  • Don’t get intense cravings for food and no longer miss the foods I don’t eat. Doesn’t feel like I’m “on a diet”.
  • Don’t usually get hungry between meals any more, but happy to have some bacon if I do.
  • Energy levels more steady and still have energy left to spare after hard day at work. Don’t get sleepy after eating any more.

Negatives:

  • The first 10 days totally sucked for me. I almost quit twice. Glad I stuck with it. I feel like I now understand what a heroin addict goes thru during withdrawal!
  • Going to eat outside the home is trickier. Let’s just say Brazilian steakhouses are my new favorite.
  • Getting weird muscle cramps sometimes, especially when running. Been trying to up my salt intake.

Thanks!
Adam

Brett heals depression, anger, nervous breakdown, insomnia on carnivore diet

Why I am a thankful carnivore

I was 1st diagnosed with major depression in 1990.

In 1995 I started taking anti-depressants.

This began a cycle of wellness vs illness that gradually tilted towards being ill most of the time.

In 2007 I had your text book nervous breakdown. Crippling insomnia & anxiety joined the party.
Doctor put me on much stronger meds that included Effexor, Wellbutrin, Ambien, Remeron, Lamactil, Abilify, Seroquel, Ativan, Trazadone, Latuda & many more!

From 1995 till the end of 2017 my brain chemistry was constantly under assault by these medicines that never really helped me for more than a few weeks at most.

In 2015 I discovered I could treat my symptoms successfully with cannabis. I began LCHF diet & started walking.

By the end of 2015 I was off the anti-depressants.

By the end of 2016 I was off the ativan (after 8 years of daily prescribed use)

By the end 2017 I was off insomnia meds.

But I was still dependent on cannabis. Even as a legal patient here in Florida it is very expensive to use & I hated being dependent upon it just to treat my mood.

Then I discovered Dr Jordan Peterson on Rogan talking about the Carnivore way of eating which led me directly to Dr Shawn Baker & this website!

On July 16, 2018 I began living carnivorously. I have only consumed meat & water since that day.

10 days into the experience I lost all joint pain.

Beginning on day 23 into day 24 I felt the depression symptoms all vanish. I am 100% of depression now!

My anxiety problem gradually improved every day to where now 6.5 months in, I have no anxiety issues now to speak of.

My skin which use to be VERY dry, cracked & peeling has cleared up immensely.

I lost skin tags. My quality of sleep has improved dramatically. I frequently get 7-8 hours of sleep now.

The background noise in my head is all gone. My ability to observe has improved immensely.

Every aspect of my life has improved since I began eating meat & drinking water. I am on zero pharmaceutical medications.

This is why I am a thankful carnivore now & forever!
